A three-vehicle crash in a toll lane on the Polk Parkway on Thursday resulted in serious injuries for a Lakeland driver, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Don A. Farlow, 50, of Lakeland was driving west in a 2004 Lincoln toward the toll plaza between South Florida Avenue and Lakeland Highlands Road about 5 p.m. when he struck the left driver-side mirror of a 2007 Suzuki driven by Dorothy M. Wagner, 21, of Eagle Lake.

Farlow's car then struck a semi-tractor trailer driven by Michael H. Gibson, 54, of Holmes Beach. Farlow's car spun and hit a crash barrier.

Farlow, who was wearing a seat belt, was trapped in his car until rescue personnel arrived, the FHP said. He was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

Westbound tolls were suspended temporarily while emergency crews were at work.
