Polk Moms

Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.

We are expecting our 3rd child and have an interesting dilemma.  All 3 of our children will be ages 3 and under and I'm not sure what to do about our vehicle configuration.  I currently have a minivan with 2 captain's seats in the middle.  I'm unsure about having our 3 yr old in the 3rd row due to both age and the fact that I would have to crawl in over the captain's chairs to secure her which I think is a security risk if I'm out by myself, not to mention a pain.  Many of the cars I've looked at don't seem wide enough to safely have 3 carseats in the backseat.  I've seen some of the 8 passenger vans but we need to pay cash on a small budget.  Has anybody had this situation and what was your solution?

Thanks!

Have you tried the Honda Pilot?  I've heard there can be 3 in the back seat.

We have a Toyota Sienna with 8 seats and three car seats will fit in the second row---we did that with our first three.  It worked out well.  Not sure of your budget---we just looked at a new one and they are running around 25K-30K.

Ooooo is that the swagger wagon?

Yep---I have an earlier model and am looking to get a newer model.  Never thought I would drive a minivan but I actually ended up liking mine.  Traded in our SUV a few years back and found that the minivan was more practical for our family.   Unfortunately, the newer models have come with an increase in sticker price---like everything else nowadays it seems.

I drove a Chevy Astro for awhile that could handle 3 car seats in a row but barely. Our next van (a conversion van lol) had captains chairs but gave me much more room to maneuver around to the bench in the back to buckle the kids up. I finally got sick of trying to maneuver around vans and now drive a 12 seater but i have a couple more kids than you do.
We managed to get all three carseats in the backseat of our Corolla.  It's a tight squeeze but they all fit.
