5 Ingredients to Banish from Meals
Considering the "bad" listed may not surprise you or even be news to you, but some tips on how to recognize them as an ingredient in foods and how to "wean" yourself from them are added at the link as well. Worth a peek and good luck with the weaning if you're so inclined. :)

It's more a matter of watching out for refined sugars, just like it's a matter of watching out for refined grains, etc.
All that said, those of you who saw me down that entire Chocolate Decadence at Grillsmith by myself on Friday know that one thing I am not giving up is sugar ;)
I'll keep it clean. But the Big Chocolate Industry should be sued in a class action suit by the members of the male gender, for "alienation of spousal affection."

And that's saying something.

Pasta is a tough one for me. Tried the switch to whole grain pasta. Not crazy about it, but I could probably do it, over time. Problem is, the family doesn't like it either. I have a hard enough time getting them to eat as it is!
We didn't have "whole grains" when I was growing up. I went through phases where I ate "bread and butter" sandwiches for lunch or "coffee cake" or sugary cereal for breakfast as a child. I drank whole milk with every meal...BUT, my parents were good about not eating out, and not eating fried foods. We always had a balanced dinner, with smallish portions and random snacking was not really allowed. I am still thin and healthy....even now that I am over 40 and don't really exercise and don't eat "healthy" at times. Basically, it was a little bit of discipline, routine and structure when I was a child, possibly combined with "good genes".
I am not as good as my parents were! We eat out a lot, we eat fast food a lot, we snack a lot...BUT, since we know so much more about healthy food choices today, I balance that out by making better choices when we do eat at home. I can assure you, we won't be eating sugary cereal or coffee cake for breakfast every day around here! Both my kids eat whole wheat bread and I haven't bought mayo in years!
