Polk Moms

Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.

Can somebody please point me in the direction or maybe be able to offer me assistance in obtaining a cheap car that runs. I have a 16month old babygirl and two months ago my husband who is a medically retired usmc. Literally got up walked out and not only closed our bank acct. He stopped payment on our bills and left me with nothing but debt I'm slowly working my way out of. I know this is far fetched but I at least have to try

Nashonia - I am sorry for the situation you are in. People don't realize the stress on military families...if you call "211" on any phone it connects you to a nationwide resource directory for the United Way. Tell them your needs and they can point you in the direction you need to go for assistance. Best wishes to you and that baby girl.
I agree with JJ - United Way is one of the best resources, there use to be a service that helped people buy used cars but I can't remember the name right now. If I can find it & it's still available, I will update on here. I just wanted to tell you that my heart goes out to you & I wish you & your baby girl all the luck in the world!! It is tough enough to raise a child, let alone without your partner!
Nashonia - I just talked to my hubby - he is very involved with the United Way. He did not know about the car program that I was thinking of but he immediately said for you to call 211. He said it's not just United Way, but many different programs & they hopefully can help you!!
Contact the USMC. As the dependant of someone medically retired you are surely entitled to part of that check. They should be able to work with you to get this done. Try the law department, it is JAG in other services, I am not sure about the Marine Corps versions title. You shouldn't have to do this with no help.
You are correct I get 400 a month for my daughter but thats my only income and I'm having to make payments and about to take on room mates to help with the bills. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me. I can't tell you all how touched I am
