Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.
I know ads are on every website... but I'm almost dreading checking theledger.com everyday now, because the ads are getting so out of hand and annoying!
I don't remember there ever being so MANY ads on The Ledger's website before... what's up with that?! Within the last couple of days, I'm beginning to get FULL PAGE ads when I try to go to the second page of an article... so then I have to wait for the ad to play before I can skip it and continue reading what I was on.
I realize I'm just being a complainer but really.... annoying! lol. Rant complete.

I know I may get some eye-rolls here, but for me, ads are the reason we get to enjoy websites for free and they are the internet normal. I've seen far more sites with more obnoxious ads, in my opinion.
I am sorry if ads bother any of you, but I would like to extend my thanks to all of you for reading TheLedger.com and PolkMoms.com. :)
I agree! The ads are chasing me away from theledger.com!!!!
I don't mind normal ads on the page as they have to make their money, but really bugs me are:
1) Script on a page that causes my whole browser, and sometimes my whole PC, to crash. This happens almost every day! I have 2 different PC's and it happens on both. Also both PC's are heavily protected and scanned for malware, so it is not some kind of virus problem. (I use ie9)
2) That it takes sooo long to open a page since its trying to load scripts. The home page is really bad -- have to wait for that ad that moves the whole page down for several seconds then moves it back up. The page is useless until that thing is finished moving.
3) Clicking "next page" brings up a white page with lines of code. Sometimes it will eventually go to a full page ad, which SOMETIMES will eventually go to the next page. More often than not it will get stuck on either the white page of code or the ad and never get to page two.
There aren't a lot of options for Polk County news, but I have stopped reading anything that isn't a local story because it is so irritating.

Permalink Reply by MandyJay on January 18, 2013 at 4:09pm Hee :) Shawn, I use Firefox and my browser JUST crashed (entertainingly, it was while I was attempting to access this very thread) due to multiple and seemingly endless script errors on the Ledger main page. URRRGH!!!
I completely understand the need for advertising considering the benefit we get from the articles, but it's times like this where I tend to leave the Ledger alone for awhile in hopes that they'll workout whatever current advertising bugs are plaguing it. Lest you think I'm picking on the Ledger, please understand that I also do the same with Huffington Post. It's not quite as frequent an offender, but it's often enough that the unpleasant experience sticks in my head :)
Been away all weekend and came back to great responses! I think that PkD said it best for me. All the reasons you listed are my feelings exactly! I know there are ads everywhere, I was just saying specifically theledger.com has seemed to have been overcome with them just recently. I don't remember there ever being so many before. I mean, I'm going to continue coming here and reading the local news, of course, I wouldn't read my news anywhere else... hence why I have noticed the huge increase in ads on the site.
