Polk Moms

Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.

I will be kidless Monday (woo-hoo!!) and am planning on going to the range to take advantage of ladies day - no range fees - at Shoot Straight in Lakeland.

Anyone interested in joining me? :)

I am wide open on times since I don't have kids to plan around and I'd be happy to sit on the couch with someone's kids if you want to go but need to bring them with you. There's a couch under a big window where they can watch you or I can whip out the ipad with a Dora episode or Toy Story 3 to entertain them.

They do rent guns there if you don't have one or I will have my Ruger LC9 and Taurus PT .22 and I don't mind letting someone try either out.

I'm planning on going to the range Monday either way but would love some company :)

I had a blast at the range today!! I'm currently gun shopping and was able to rent the 2 that I'm trying to decide between. I was hoping that by shooting both I'd like one more than the other. LOVED them both. :( I went through 150 rounds between the 2 guns. Now trying to decide between them. I'm going to sell my LC9 to help finance whatever I decide on.

A friend was able to meet me, Shawn you know her - Odd Woman Out is I believe the name she used to use here. We bought a battleship target and took turns shooting each others "ships" It really was a lot of fun!

We'll have to try again another Monday...

Now, I'm really kicking myself, it would have been great to see her too!   That does sound like a lot of fun and I'm so happy you had a good time.  :)

Definately have to try another Monday.  If I do it would probably have to be in the afternoon like around the time you just went.  This way I would have my mom to watch Jesse.  I had seen the Battleship Targets, but now I understand the concept of it and sounds like fun.

Alicia what kind of guns were you looking at up at Shoot Straight?
Hubby has a Taurus 380 to trade if you are interested.
Just curious since not sure what guns you were looking
at.
Thanks for thinking of me Tabby. :) I want to stay with a 9mm. The 2 I've narrowed it to are a Smith &Wesson M&P 9c or a Springfield XD 9 subcompact. I listed my LC9 for sale online yesterday so if and when I sell it I'll get one of those two. I've also been making the rounds of pawn stores to see if I can find a used one - I did find the XD yesterday and that's the one I'm leaning towards at this point.

No problem.  Have you checked out www.floridaguntrader.com yet?  My hubby is on it all the time searching for deals.  Not that he really needs any more guns...LOL  The Cash America Pawn store on US Hwy 98 N does sell guns bu they are As Is.  After hubby got a gun once from there it had an issue and he called them.  Luckily the person did not know the policy and told us to bring it in for a refund (wrote their name with date and time we called).  They did refund our money, but that's when we were told As Is.  I worry with places like that because they don't test them before they buy them and you never know if they will blow up on you.  West Coast usually gets in guns, but we found them to be pretty high priced.  I can ask my hubby when he goes back to work if his friends have any of the type of guns you are looking at for sale.  He knows a few from work that he goes shooting with.

There's a little pawn shop by the hospital - real nice guy who owns it and he's told me he stands by what he sells. I bought my first gun a little .22 from him but he doesn't have a lot - he's worth looking at though. The place I was at yesterday with the xd I asked what their policy was if it didn't fire right and he said "store credit" that's the main reason I walked away - he didn't have anything else I was remotely interested in so store credit would do me no good if that was the case. Many of the big manufacturers will warranty their guns though, Ruger, S&W, Springfield, etc. even though they don't expressly say their warranty transfers owners. Taurus warranty is lifetime on the gun, regardless of change of ownership.

I did find a GREAT price on the guns I like (new) - got a lead from a guy on defensivecarry.com, the website is http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/firearms.html  But it was out of stock. The S&W I like is over $500 new and it was on sale for $399. Budsgunshop.com is usually pretty good but by the time you add the FFL fee to pick it up locally you're usually back at the haggle price you can get at shoot straight.

I didn't know about floridaguntrader - I'll check it out, thanks!! :) I've been looking on the couple forums I like but haven't seen anything.

Tabby! I LOVE you!! I had no idea about that site - it's like a craigslist for firearms is that right?!  I haven't even looked for what I want yet but am thinking it's a much easier way to list my current one for sale than how I have it listed now and not have to ship!!! :D  Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Alicia, PM me the price you are looking for on your gun to sell.  Hubby was asking me, I guess so if he knows someone that may be looking.  Thanks :o)
