Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.
Hi All:
I need to find a place for women's hair cuts and was wondering if anyone would give me some recommendations. I am in the Winter Haven area but would travel to Lakeland. I really need someone skilled as my hair is very thick, wavy, and difficult to cut. Thanks so much.

I go to Evolve in downtown Lakeland. My stylist is Kiki. My hair isn't too thick or wild but I have cowlicks in the back. Other stylists had a hard time taming them, but she always did a good job when I had a short cut.
Try "Christy's" in Mulberry -- you will love "Tonia" there.
Permalink Reply by MandyJay on February 22, 2013 at 9:33am I'm at Evolve as well -- my stylist is Andrea and she's awesome :) I have ridiculous hair (it's wavy-to-curly and is utterly maddening), and Andrea handles it well.
Kiki has never done my hair but I've seen her in the salon and everyone coming out of her chair also looks marvelous.
Also, just FYI, I know several if not all stylists at Evolve have recently taken a continuing ed course from the folks at Devachan which is a salon out of NYC with a focus on curly (includes wavy) hair. This particular class was about the DevaCurl/DevaCare products, which are specially geared toward curlier hair.
Thanks so much. I will definitely check these out.
I go to Get Even Salon, 121 Avenue H SE in Winter Haven. My hair happens to be short, and Jenn is the stylist I use. However, Keith and Janice, 2 of the owners, have many years of experience. Prices are reasonable and they are very nice and aim to take care of their clients.
Wild Hare is AWESOME. My mom and I both go there and they did a great job. This is after going to different salons and getting bad coloring and hack jobs on our hair. I have thick curly hair and get very nervous going to get my hair cut. I can't tell you how many times I said 1/2 inch and low and behold it was one inch. Not very many ppl understand that once curly hair dries it shrinks so you have to be careful when cutting it. Now, my Mom introduced me to Wild Hare on 540A (Lakeland) and I had an AWESOME experience. I have been to high end hair salons and this one takes the cake. I remember once getting my hair washed (at a high end place) and it being SO uncomfortable. I had to use my neck muscles to keep my head up and it was horrible. At Wild Hare their wash stations are comfortable and you can relax. They don't splash water in your face either (unlike some places). Now the hair stylist that my Mom and I go to is Chenoa Matthews. She gave me the cut I asked for (I did bring a pick) and highlights/lowlights. The prices are reasonable, in my opinion. For my cut and highlights the total cost was $85.

Just wanted to thank everyone for the great recommendations. It took a long time but finally scheduled an appt with Kiki and was thrilled with the result. She really knew how to cut and style curly hair as well as took the time to train me to manage it. I would highly recommend her.
