Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.
Halloween is behind us and for me that is the key date to start revving up for Black Friday sales.
For years now we've had PolkMoms discussion for Black Friday. In fact, you can catch last year's (2010) right here.
During those discussions, at times, we've had people ask, "What is Black Friday?" Well Wikipedia has a jam up way of describing it and we can have a great place chatting the deals we see, find, shop and want right here.
Do you venture out early in the a.m after Thanksgiving? What stores do you shop at? Are there any that you avoid on purpose? Do you have a funny or harrowing Black Friday shopping experience to share?
I'm hoping to find good deals on a wireless printer, maybe a new T.V and definitely an Ipod Touch. The seven year old tortures big brothers to play with theirs.
How about you?
What deal do you hope to see this year?Tags:

Permalink Reply by Tabby on November 9, 2011 at 10:58am I love getting the ads leaked out. Gives me a chance to see what's on sale and if we need it. Just waiting to hear if Walmart is going to match Black Friday advertised ads again this year. That really works for me. I know our son needs a new hooded sweat jacket and Walmart usually puts them at a great price Black Friday, but they go to fast. I rather get the great deals on games and movies and pay full price (or sale price) on clothes afterwards. A few years ago I about got trampled trying to get my mom a coat. I did get it and I hate to say when push came to shove...I did shove back. I think we are just about done with our son. Now I need to get hubby and mom taken care of. My mom is like me, we don't go out anywhere so we don't need anything fancy like jewelery, we have enough clothes, she doesn't bake or sew anymore and we got enough body wash to last another year. She mainly asks for a Fantastic Sam's gift certificate, scrub tops for work, socks, and that's about it. She did ask for that metal wallet thing from As Seen On TV. Hubby is mainly games or dvd's. If he stops buying between now and then, I can get them for him. I got a $20 e-gift card from Walmart and a $25 Gamestop gift card (doing surveys). I should be getting my email today or tomorrow to print up for my $10 gift card for belonging to the mall club. I did sign up for other survey sites to start gaining gift cards for next year. We'll see how that goes.
Permalink Reply by Tabby on November 9, 2011 at 2:37pm Just read on Walmart's Facebook page that they are going to release their Black Friday ad at 12:01am. I am so excited. I asked if they are price matching again this year and just waiting on a response. Once I find out I will let you all know. I got fingers, toes and eyes crossed that they do...LOL

Just found out the Best Buy will open Midnight rather than at 4am. So far that makes Best Buy, Target, Kohl's and Macy that will open at midnight. Sears and JC Penny will open at 4am. Walmart opened at midnight, but they did not release their sale stuff till 4am like the other stores. I know the past few years they also matched all advertised Black Friday sales (even the ones during certain hours). I am hoping the do the price matching again this year. Made it so easy for me. With Best Buy and Game Stop you had to sit out there for days to try to get in on the sales. All I did was show the ad of the games or movies I wanted and they matched it. Beats driving around crowded parking lots and people walking aimlessly in the lot too. Most of the people brought their small kids and really didn't do such a good job watching them in the parking lot.

There are a bunch. I'll list what I have so far.
www.erewards.com (cash in for GameStop gift cards quarterly)
That's just a few. I've been with e-rewards the longest. Used to get Borders Bucks added to my Borders card, but since there is no more Borders (not even online) it's no longer offered. They do offer besides GameStop, air travel miles, magazine subscriptions, Omaha Steaks, FTD flowers, and more.

Permalink Reply by Tabby on November 10, 2011 at 10:48am Just called the Walmart on US Hwy 98 North and asked about the price matching advertised sales for Black Friday. Bad news is they are NOT going to do this. I left a post on Walmart's Facebook page and even sent the corporate office an email. I know I am only one timy voice, but maybe more voices will reach them over the next few weeks and they will change their minds. I will call to other Walmart stores to see if they are going to price match, but I doubt they will as well.
This always helped me because other stores may have a game or movie that I really wanted while Walmart may not have it on sale or if they do, it may be a bit more. Even some dvd TV series will be on sale at Walmart for like $10. It was easier to have someone at each station that really wanted something and get it priced matched rather than splitting up at several different stores. It is usually just my mom and I that are out shopping while hubby stays home with our son. Now to decide what to do for that day. May just say s***w it and stay home to get it online. This really puts a wrench in my plans now. Sorry just needed to vent.
For what my 7 year old wants this year, so far, I haven't seen much I will being going out for this year. I have actually been disappointed in what I have seen. I have been going to theblackfriday.com to look at released ads. I have actually been seeing stuff he wants on sale now and not in the black friday sales so far released. Oh a hint, last year I shopped from 11-6am. I take the sale ad and write my list on it and pg number in a sharper. This way I don't forget anything.
