When Tracking Down Polk's Best Burger (click to read the review) a Ledger Reporter described the winner as having a "Snappy Crust of Seasoning" along with a bounty of other compliments.

I agree.  I should know.  I've had it.  I loved it.  I whole heartedly approved the findings.  It was the best burger around. The Matt's BlackJack Burger found in Lake Wales at the restaurant, Crazy Fish was, without doubt, make-your-eyes-roll-back-in-your-head, good!

But do you see a trend of "was" here?

I miss that BlackJack Burger, but you see, it's actually still there.  Sometime, somewhere, that level of tastiness fell.  I'm pleading for a comeback.

The reason I drew the "snappy crust seasoning" from the original review is because that is the obvious miss when biting into the burger.  The menu states (find it here) this is a blackened burger.

For me, blackened means a layer of seasoning.  Yes, a snappy crust.

At this dinning option you're actually lucky enough to watch the cook prepare your food if close enough to the open kitchen concept they have.  Once the chef pulled out my patty, I saw him take a shaker all of two seconds to season the meat.  Not enough for a speck of taste of blackened much less a shell. The burger was flavorless.  A blackened crust happens with a rub approach, not a quick shake approach.

And my other chief complaint. The bun.

The best burger in better years was served-up on a Publix French hamburger roll which was just perfect.  Those buns (which I use at home when I make homemade Au Jus sandwiches) know how to hold up with perfect texture to juices.

The BlackJack Burger I recently had, which can attest to the degree of juiciness it does still hold, was served on a wimpy,  tasteless,  texture-less bun that was a heaping soggy mess within seconds.

Crazy Fish, if you can hear me, make a comeback for that burger.  It deserves it.  And, by darn it, I want it.

This makes me sad! I love the BlackJack burger and didn't know they changed it. That was seriously the best burger! We should start a petition : )

Lol, I agree!   I've had the Black Jack twice since the change over and after disappointment number two, I realized this was indeed a change.  My take, if it's not broke, don't fix it (the winning burger), but if it is (the 'now' burger) then do fix it.  :)
