We go to Care Animal Clinic on Edgewood right next to McKeel South Elementary. It is a father son operation. I prefer the father because I had a bad experience with the son. It is kind of far from my house, so when I can't get there, I go to Christina Animal Hospital across from Walmart.

For yearly shots, I do SPCA. We don't really need a yearly exam, because our pets are high maintenance and usually have problems and need a vet visit more than once a year!
Amanda, I use the traveling vets and I am Happy. http://www.luvmypet.com/
They go to Dundee Feed store and can do Heartworm checks and sell everything needed. Heartworm pills, and flea stuff :-) I get my 2 done w HW check for about 120.00 I think it was. I have used them for years and the vet knows my doxies very well. I use Veterinary Healthcare also and they don't get mad cause I use the other for shots. http://www.vhavets.com/ Hope this helps.
I wish I was able to find the message we had about this on the other board (don't even know if that is possible). I talked quite a bit about this very same topic of vaccines and vet visits. I will post a disclaimer: I am a local area veterinarian and am proud of the wellness services we offer at our clinic. We also provide 24 hour care. I work ER and have had the opportunity to see a few of the polkmoms' pets. I actually treated Alicia's dog initially and followed her posts on the old forum. I hope your girl is doing well.

The one thing I will always stress is that the yearly vet visit should not always be about vaccines. While it is a component, I feel and our practice feels that it is not the most important part of the visit. I can say that because we actually use a 3 year vaccine protocol for most of our vaccines. The most important aspect of the visit is the physical examination and early identification of problems which we can try to implement changes to keep our pets with us longer and healthier. We try to incorporate annual lab testing to try and identify diseases earlier. I am always happy to answer any questions. I feel that you cannot go wrong with most of the vets mentioned by the above posts. I do not know all of them but I have dealt with many of them over the past few years.
YOU ARE HERE! :D I was thinking "erinsmom" or something like that, but with the switch so many changed names I wasn't sure if you switched over. I also didn't realize it was you who treated Heidi - I knew you were an ER vet there but had a limited schedule and I was so worried I never had the courtesy to ask (I'm sorry). I cannot thank you and your office enough for the care she received there. Heidi is great! Darn dog, lol - I had so many question why we would spend all that money "just to save a dog" but she was only 3 yrs and it wasn't like she had a terminal illness - the darn thing ate sand. (grrr!) Heidi is great and back to her troublemaking self - she opens the fridge if I'm not careful and she's not unsupervised as much in the yard to try and prevent a repeat (although with 5 kids and the dogs I don't watch her every second). I've even considered working with her and trying for a good citizen rating and then a therapy/reading dog since so many people are scared of rottweilers and she's so sweet, maybe she could help make a better name for her breed (not that there aren't dangerous ones out there but I really believe its the owners not the breed but that bring me totally off topic)
I am here. I lurk mainly. Would like to get more involved but just never seem to make that first step. I am glad she is doing so well.
