Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.
Has anyone heard of field trips being restricted for schools? Trying to find out more details about the time line and scope of these restrictions.
Thanks
Kim

Permalink Reply by kimpsbl2 on September 29, 2011 at 5:25am That is interesting Macaela, what type of fundraisers? We've already got a bunch of fundraisers for our schools with money going already to different needs. I was thinking of suggesting driving the kids to the places ourselves but that may have to be after school due to insurance or something. I'm totally guessing. Ugh.
Permalink Reply by Sarah Graham on September 29, 2011 at 4:05pm I talked to a principal today that said she has not been told of any restrictions on field trips. There are classes planing on Legoland, Arabian Nights (tied into Black Stallion literacy ) in Kissimmee, and plays at the theater in downtown Lakeland.
She said she has heard of some schools having to cut back on field trips - but I got the impression it was limiting the number of them, not in any way getting rid of them all together.
Permalink Reply by kimpsbl2 on September 29, 2011 at 5:13pm At my son's school the kids go on a field trip every year in every grade. Kindergarten he went to Green Meadows and This year he is going to the Cornfusion Maze. I know one of the grades goes to Kennedy Space Center. I believe it is up to each school what they do.

Permalink Reply by MandyJay on October 4, 2011 at 12:27pm This is just sad. I know school is for education, but I also know that these much-anticipated breaks in routine are highly anticipated and enjoyed by the students. It can be argued (successfully, even) that these events actually increase academic attention and performance, just as any break or rest day might.
Oh well, at least the budget cuts stopped them from implementing the SBAR grading system above 2nd grade. So we got that much out of this.

Trisha, the first grade classes at my kids school were supposed to go to the corn maze but Friday a letter from the principal came home saying it had been cancelled due to changes in the district's guidelines and that our money would be refunded in 30 days.
