Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.
Does anyone know the family that had the fatal fire in Kathleen this morning? I saw that the school there was planning to find uniforms & school supplies for the older children. I have some gently used uniform shorts (girls size 6) that I would be happy to pass along if they could use them.

Permalink Reply by Shawn Spivey on July 18, 2012 at 2:58pm S, you are so sweet to start a discussion on this, to make such an offer. I know it's not a stretch to say many of us have felt heart-sick after reading this story. :(
It's wonderful to see the quotes come from the local school principal, that she took the time to check on this family and declares some help will come from that direction.
3-Year-Old Dies in Lakeland House Fire
Although the tragedy outlined is horrendous, I'm glad to see many did make their way safely out of the home. Although physically out, I can't imagine the emotions the survivors are experiencing.
My thoughts are also with the injured father and his hopeful recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with them all.

I just got a call from my husband who bowls with this father. What devastating news! I don't know him. I've seen him at the bowling alley as my family is big into bowling but I did not know him personally, however, my husband does. He just told me that the bowling alley is doing a collection as well so that might be another point of contact for anyone wanting to do donations as the father is a regular there. My hubby is telling me that tears are flowing over there. Just sooo sad. The little boys father Brian bowls out of AMF Lakeland.
Permalink Reply by Sarah Graham on July 19, 2012 at 9:01pm I do know of the kids in the family. I taught at KES for a couple of years and my kids were students there. My daughter was in the same class as one of the this past year.
The two girls will be going into 3rd and 4th grade and then there is a son who I believe would be in 7th or 8th grade this year. The girls are are probably about the same size as your daughter because I would have said they will need a 7 and 8 for this year.
It is so nice to see community members reaching out to those in need.
For anyone wanting to drop stuff off the office at Kathleen Elementary is open Monday-Thursday right now for summer hours. I would avoid lunch time because they sometimes close the office at that time as sometimes there is only one person in the office. Once August comes there will be more people in the office.
