Polk Moms

Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.

Are you moms ready to chat Halloween costumes?  I know we are still about a month out from the holiday but some of us may have to do some major work and searches to get the right ideas, accessories, and sizes.  It could take us a whole month!

Not to mention online ordering.  We have to have costumes shipped in time to make sure everything is A-okay and in good shape to make for happy trick-or-treaters.

Do you already know what your child aims to dress up as for Halloween?  Do you ever make costumes yourself?

If you find good sites and good online deals selling dress-up gear, please post those.

If you find links with great ideas and costume making guidelines, please add those, too.

Here's a list of 35+ Easy Homemade Halloween Costumes for Kids to get us started.

I so need help this year! This is the first year I have two children and I want their costumes to go together so badly! My four year old is going to be Repunzel from Tangled and I would like for my son who is 8 months to be Pascal the lizard/chameleon. I want to go homemade as I am for my daughters costume because it was actually cheaper for once :) Anyways does anyone have ANY ideas on how to make my son's costume or where I could purchase one? It doesn't have to actually be a Pascal costume just a lizard or chameleon. :) If all else fails he will be Flynn Rider, but how much cuter would Pascal be!!!

Shawn,  check this link on pinterest.com for the peacock costume.  http://pinterest.com/pin/323093747/

I have a tutu you can use with the teal/green/blue colors.  I'll bring it on Saturday. Maybe if L sees it, she may  be more apt to being a peacock vs. the barbie one.

Hey Shawn try costumecraze.com and search Barbie, there is a Mariposa costume and a fairy secret, didn't know which you were looking for :)

Shawn, I finished Jana's peacock costume today, but I think I'll have to get onto the laptop to upload a picture. I'm not even sure I know how to!

Basically, I just made her a tutu skirt from purple, teal and lime green tulle. Then for her feathers, I bought 3 sets of feathers from Michaels.  Each one came with 2 sets of 3 feathers each.  I also bought a small half sphere of floral foam. I covered the foam with black sparkly felt, then stuck the feathers in. I then glued some extra teal and blue feathers to the wire stems of the peacock ones to fill it out.  I attached straps so that it goes over her shoulders like a back pack. It looks cute!  My mom found a feather masquerade mask at a store in Plant City, so she will wear that with it.  She also will wear black leggings, and right now a green tank top, but if it's chilly she will probably wear a black shirt.

I have to put the finishing touches on the little one's Elmo tutu dress this weekend and then I'll be done!  I

Here is a picture of her in the costume - the tail feathers were kind of leaning - I need to tighten up her harness some so they won't fall over.  She loves the costume, though!

And here is the little one's Elmo tutu dress!  :)

Chasity!  Be so glad this is online and not in person because you would have a grown woman jumping up and down with glee all over you!   Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!   Thank you!   Thank YOU!

I am not exaggerating by saying in the past weeks I've looked at 50 plus websites looking for the Barbie Fairytale Secret Costume only to see, "Not in Stock" or "Sold Out".   But the site you gave me, not only had the costume, they had it in her size and it was the cheapest price I've seen, too!   Woo-Hoo!  I just finished ordering.   My daughter definitely thanks you, too!

Stephanie and Orange Blossom Momma, thank you for the Peacock info and encouragement.  I was still trying to push Lillian that way and all though she thought the picture ideas were really pretty, it's not what she wanted.  Thanks to Chasity I have her Barbie outfit ordered and hopefully on the way soon.  : )

Stephanie, you did a great job on those outfits!  You have to be a super proud and crafty momma.  :)

Great Halloween costumes and decorations at the "Holiday Store".  Check out web site at Youtube.com/holidaystore. Address:  301 Commerce Court Unit H

Is anyone making last minute dress-up decisions or are you all ready to go for Halloween?
I'm already dress up wise for me and the girls.  Feel bad - didn't decorate this year, being out of town and being busy (ahhh life - still adjusting).

Stacie, I'm positive you girls are going to rock it!   I would LOVE to see pics when it's all said and done.  :D

I'm getting a tad nervous.  You all may have seen I did dive in to order costumes online and our order has not arrived yet.  Eeeek! I hope it gets here in time.   Ryan has storybook character day tomorrow so I had to run out and get an alternate for school tomorrow.

Cross your fingers for me, ladies (and gents).
