HOT: 102 DEGREES HOTTEST DAY ON RECORD FOR JULY

No, way! Conversationally we all chat that it feels like over a hundred degrees, but to actually be over 100 degrees?  I'm just blown away!

I mentioned we've been at the beach for several days.  I told my family I could feel the difference, it felt like a 5 to 6 degree increase in temperature from the coast to home.

102 degrees.  I'm still shaking my head.

It also mentions the storms we had this afternoon.  They were pretty intense at our house in Bartow.  Did you fair damage free?  After reading what happened at Dusty's Camper World, I feel like I might should do a yard walk through.  I did have a terra-cotta pot fall over and dump the plant on my front porch.  Amazingly, it didn't break.

Are you having a hard time staying cool at your house?

I can relate to the bad storm we had in Bartow yesterday! I was driving home and had to park at the circle K by 80 ft road the rain was awful and I couldnt see anything. There were many other cars park there too.. Circle K even lost power. I was park there for a good 30 min until it finally calm down and I continue to drive home.
I saw that 102 on the weather yesterday and saw Orlando down for 77 and thought for sure the thermometer was messed up! I guess the temps at the airport are often hotter than where we are though. We did get rain but nothing like the storm that apparently hit Bartow!
I've been dying. :( My house will only cool so much in the heat of the day so in the middle of the day it gets a toasty 82-84 in my house. :( Of course hubby swears that an a/c will only effectively cool 20 degrees down from the outside temp and we live in a manufactured home which is famous for not being energy efficient. So the blinds are pulled, tank tops are out and I shut down mid day - too hot to clean.

No rain here yesterday although it did get overcast and the temp dropped a bit
I normally hate the heat but it is making my laundry easier to do. I started using a clothesline this summer (hoping to lower the electric bill) and this heat is great at drying sheets. I hang them up and they are done in less than 20 minutes. With 5 beds in the house, this is a great time saver--I got four sets of sheets done yesterday and am working on my bed (king-size which takes forever) today.

I also raised the a/c and am using fans to stay cool. The kids are spending a lot of time in the pool trying to cool off.
ok as i sit her my thermomoter witch is in the sun is reading 108.7 crazy. our ac is set at 82 and it seems to be running a lot today. but i can't turn it up or off. i'm dying today. pregnancy and heat don't mix. i just took my clothes off the line and i was sweating soooo bad. i'm ready for cooler weather. i promise i wont complain when it does finally cool off.

Lol, Courtney, I will : )

I hate the cold weather. So crazy to have such extremes in the same year. In just a few months time, we had snow flurries to over a hundred degree weather.

I just read an article yesterday that setting your thermostat up on your AC unit and having floor fans can save on your electric bill. I wonder if I should invest in some. I think I have a box fan in storage (?). Here is a few stylish fans I found, some are pretty well priced. I think it's a neat concept to combine style and function. Check it out!

If you find a link with some cool -pun intended :p - looking fans, please post it!
Speaking of fans, have any of you seen the Dyson Air Multiplier on T.V. ? Better yet, have you seen one in person or own one? They look like super neat machines! I wonder how well they work?
I wondered if setting up ac and running fans would help elec or counteract each other. I keep my ac on 80 during the day but it doesn't make it. I'm going to try some fans I think. And Shawn, as miserable as I am right now I too will complain about the cold. I hate it. I did find a way to make the house feel cool - I just got in from gardening and trimming outside. You bet my 82 degree house feels good now!

Ceiling fans definitely help to lower heating costs. They allow you to up your AC while still feeling like the same temperature due to "wind chill". It saves about 14% in energy costs---definitely worth it. Not sure if box fans have the same savings.
I found this info in the following link: http://www.ajchomefinder.com/home-decor/ceiling-fans-reduce-energy-...
