Has anyone been to the Ice Palace at International Plaza? Is it worth the drive from Winter Haven? Is it really ice?

No, but I wonder if it is just like "Ice" at the Gaylord Palms. At Ice, they hire people from China to build elaborate ice sculptures and ice slides for the kids. It is real ice. I think they have jackets you can rent, but I would just dress very warm! It costs an arm and a leg for parking and admission, but they always have discount tickets found locally. My son got a free pass with his report card and it came with $2 off for everyone else, and $1 off parking (parking is $13, not sure how much admission is). We are considering doing the "Ice" one this year, over Xmas break. My sister lives in VA and did a local one with her kids last year. Seems to be like a franchise now!

I have gone to ICE at Gaylord Palms 2 times.  Never heard of the other one. The one at Gaylord Palms was really great the 1st year but I feel when we went again a few years later it seems a lot smaller.  Regarding the coats, you do not rent the coats they are free with the admission.  You will want to get one because they were very warm. It is neat to experience once but not something we will do again.

I've been to Ice at the Gaylord Palms before and just wanted to add that the jackets they loan are helpful if you want to do the ice slides. They are longer than the average jacket and a smooth material which will make sliding down these ice slides easier. I "dressed for the occasion" and didn't use their jacket. I wore some if my ski gear a jacket not quite as long while my friends wore the loaners so I learned that lesson first hand. ;)
