Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.
Weather can definitely mold a mother's day; for what we need to dress our children in to readying ourselves. I wanted to start a discussion on weather: what it's like locally, when it makes headlines, statistics, and our chatty opinions.
We have a better weather discussion, last summer we had a seasonal hurricane discussion, and we have a freezing temps discussion. Feel free to use those, too, but if you want to generalize weather, if you find something weather related conversational, this can be one more option to consider on where to do that.
Something that caught my eye was the church billboard in this photo. The snow and ice sections of our country has experienced are just unprecedented in my memory.

I went out this afternoon in sandels, happy and warm, and came home tonight with frozen toes and wishing I took a jacket with me. brrrrrrr
Permalink Reply by Shawn Spivey on January 17, 2013 at 1:08pm I've seen a lot of folks complaining about this warm weather spell we've been having. The comments I've seen usually ring along the lines of, "This is January, were's the winter weather?"
Not that temps to come could be considered winter-ish, per se, but cooler none-the-less.
Do you love it?
Permalink Reply by MandyJay on January 17, 2013 at 1:13pm I'm glad to see cooler weather moving in -- I have cute winter stuff to wear, dangit!
Permalink Reply by Shawn Spivey on February 13, 2013 at 6:53am I was thinking of putting the kids in shorts this morning for school today and it looks like this is the last day this week we might can get away with it. I'm going to make sure they take a jacket, though, just in case. The weather has been so nice, I will miss it, not looking forward to these cold temps coming. This weekend we will see some extreme lows.
Permalink Reply by Shawn Spivey on February 16, 2013 at 8:29am I mentioned earlier in the week this Freeze Warning and the forecast proved right. Bundle up this weekend, and come Monday morning, jackets and long pants will be a must for the kids heading out of the house. Stay warm and safe my friends!
Permalink Reply by MandyJay on February 16, 2013 at 12:15pm I'm doing some buttermilk roast chicken tonight... looks like it'll go well with the weather we've got incoming :)
Permalink Reply by Shawn Spivey on February 17, 2013 at 6:43pm Yum and Hmmmm, I've never heard of buttermilk with roasted chicken. Now, I do think the secret to the best and most juiciest fried chicken is that marinated in buttermilk. Heavy cream does in a pinch as well. I hope yours was tasty!
Considering how chilly it's to be in the morning, I'm glad the kiddos are out of school for President's Day. Come Tuesday, it's suppose to be a lot warmer. Thank goodness. :)
Permalink Reply by MandyJay on February 17, 2013 at 9:22pm It was fantastic, Shawn -- I'll send you the link to the recipe :)
And I hear you on President's Day. Sadly, I have to work so I'm not exempt from the frigid weather. Oh well, at least I'll have some good leftovers for dinner tomorrow night!
Permalink Reply by Shawn Spivey on March 1, 2013 at 7:57am Typical for me, I'm here to complain about the cold. Taking the kids to school this morning was, brrrrrrrrr. I just got back home and my fingers are still numb. I know some of you like this, but, lol, why? :)
Permalink Reply by MandyJay on March 1, 2013 at 8:16am My theory on cold weather is that I can always put on more clothes. When it's hot out, there's a limit to what I can take off, LOL

Although lower temperatures are to come this week, a hint of a pretty weekend ahead is worth hoping for.
Also mentioned is a list of spring breaks for other central Florida counties. That's handy information to have if planning a trip outside our area, whether you want to join crowds or wait them out after their spring breaks.
Stay toasty. :)
