I would definitely count 9 pounds, 13 ounces as a big baby!  Wow!  That's a lot of baby to carry around in utero.

Ms. Simpson welcomed baby girl Maxwell Drew Johnson today.

Yes it is!  I say this only because I had 9 lb 11 oz and 9 lb 9 oz babies.  And no, I didn't have gest diabetes.  Bless her heart, because I know its hard to carry babies that size!  Forget newborn size----they basically go straight into 3M clothes!

Oh, my!  Bless BOTH of your hearts!

Add me to the list of people who carry big babies.  I'm relatively petite/slender, but my son was 9 lbs. 10 oz. and my daughter who I had a week early via c-section was 8 lbs. 14 oz. so she would have likely been close to her brother's weight if I had gone full term.  People (including my doctor) were shocked that I've carried such large babies.

I hope people will leave Jessica alone now about her weight gain.  While she did admit to indulging her cravings, she also said she had excessive amounts of amniotic fluid.  That, on top of having such a large baby, played a part in her weight gain, I'm sure.  I say Congrats to the family!  And I'm looking forward to seeing pics.

I am another that can be added to the over 9 pound baby club. My son was 11 pounds even. Yes, you read that correctly he was 11 Pounds! I did not have any issues while pregnant. My doctor only let me go 1 week over my due date too. He wasn't a C section either. I had a very good epidural and only pushed for 1.5 hours. Needless to say his sister was smaller at 8 pounds 10 ounces.

Kris, I'm blown away right now.  You take the cake!  And your little lady was no light weight either.  And to see them now you would never know they were so big at birth- they are both just the right size. :)

JW, I'm amazed by your story, too.  Is the father of your children a big/tall guy?   I ask because I know a lot of people that have large babies say that big runs in the family on one or both sides.  With Jessica Simpson's case, her honey is a football player which usually equates to a big guy.   :)

I've heard that about dad's birth weight/baby's birth weight.  If that is the case, dad was 9 lbs 13 oz, so my kids' weights were not that far off.  And yes, Kris, you take the cake!  I was 38 weeks with both of my kids.  I'm thankful I didn't make it 40 weeks!

Shawn,

My husband is only average height, but he has a huskier build and he was a big baby himself (9 lbs. 11 oz.).  Also, all three of my brothers are quite tall and have larger frames so that could play a part.

Kris, all I can say is WOW!  I can't believe you delivered an 11 pound baby - kudos to you for being able to do it!

My first child was 11 lb 4 oz taken by c-section @ 38 weeks so he wouldn't get any bigger.

My second was 9 lb 8 oz taken by c-section @ 37 weeks so he wouldn't get any bigger.  No GD with either of them.

Dr. Barrett's office had a betting pool going on with the birth weight of my first one.  He called them from the OR and told Angel that she'd won...some had guessed as high as 12 lbs.

My fourth child was delivered at 37 weeks and weighed 11 lbs 12 oz.  The dr. was absolutely shocked and kept shaking his head in disbelief.  He was expecting a large baby (maybe 9-10 lbs) but not that big.  The dr. actually told me later that halfway through the delivery he realized the baby was bigger and that he was really nervous about how to get the baby out.  Fortunatley, every thing worked out great.
