Polk Moms

Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.

I can't remember where I heard about this place, but I want to say it was here! Lakeside Music Room holds concerts in someone's home. I want to say it is mostly folk and Celtic music. I have never been there, but I am on their email list. There is an upcoming concert that sounds interesting...If anyone is interested in checking this out, let me know! I can't find a website for Lakeside, but I have attached the info below:

Hi Lakeside Friends,

I’m so excited to introduce you to this wonderful vocal/instrumental Trio,   ENNIS   from Newfoundland.  The photo below does not include percussionist/vocalist Mark Murphy but he adds much to their beautiful vocals and instrumentals.

MAUREEN ENNIS (lead vocals-songwriting-acoustic guitars)

KAREN ENNIS (vocals, guitar, mandolin, tin whistles)

MARK MURPHY  (songwriting, percussion & vocals)

ENNIS entertains with their Original or Traditional Celtic tunes, a musical palate ranging from poignant ballads to fast steppin’ Reels and Jigs.  Their ballads will transport you to Newfoundland and the people they love so well.

ENNIS is a Dynamic  JUNO-Award winning original group  on stage. ENNIS recorded with:

The Chieftans,   Tommy Makem, The  Nitty Gritty Dirt Band With 8 Albums and One GOLD,

They create amazing harmonies through a unique contemporary voice,

flavored by deep roots in  Celtic,  Traditional   Newfoundland influences.

A mesmerizing  evening you won’t forget.

They will have just finished performing on the Joanie Mae Madden Irish Folk Cruise, and we are very fortunate they will come to Winter Haven for a House concert.

Lakeside is already half booked for Ennis, so if you are wanting to come, I would advise making a reservation soon.   Read more about them below.  As usual the door opens at 6:45 for Open Seating with the Concert starting at 7:30.  Suggested Donation at the Door: $15.00

The lyrics by Maureen Ennis from the Song ‘John William’, speak of the lineage into which she and her sister, Karen, were born. Along with their sister, Teresa, the girls learned to sing around the time most people learn how to walk.

And while that may not be a unique thing for many people from Newfoundland and Labrador, the level of success they have attained since then, certainly is.

With a Juno award, a SOCAN award, multiple ECMA and Music NL awards and nominations, Maureen and Karen have performed in Australia, The Middle East, Europe, America and Canada, accumulating 3 gold records along the way and sharing the stage with such widely respected artists as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Mary Black, Jann Arden and the Chieftains.

Having released 6 CD’s as the Ennis Sisters, ENNIS are poised to release their follow-up to the award winning album, ‘Lessons Learned’.
