Polk Moms

Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.

I want to share my daydreaming with you all.  In my new house I'm planning to do loft style beds for the kiddos.  The ceilings are almost 12 feet high so I have room to go up.  I was really thinking of doing a closet space under their beds and having the bed above.  A two for one in one space deal.  I like the idea.

That would be the pro, but the con would definitely be me climbing a ladder to put them to bed if they fall asleep somewhere else.  They both have a habit of falling asleep in my bed while watching tv on the weekends, only for me to move them later.   Oh my!  Lillian's weighing 70 pounds these days!

Anyway, despite that, I still love the space saving idea and their delight to having a lofty place to slumber.  They are excited about the idea.

Here is a great gallery to mull over at this link, Vacation Inspiration: Built-in Bunk Beds

Here are some pictures I picked up around the web.

This is one of my favorites found from HGTV that I have pinned at pinterest.

Here are some more ideas at Lofty Aspirations: Fifteen Lovely Loft Beds but some have a bit more of a grown-up taste.

What do you think of loft bed options?

I've been wanting to do something similiar- just not so high.  I want storage space underneath the bed -like his dresser and shelves.  that way it's not so high that I can't change the bed or like you mentioned put him to bed but I still get more floor space.

I do love these rooms though.  I'm just not sure how handy hubby and I can be.  I did get some great ideas from your IKEA hacks thread though!

I found this bed - it's partially raised/partially suspended above a door but would work for a closet also - found it at the IKEA hacks website.

I'm thrilled that you found the Ikea Hacked thread useful.   And even more so, that it helped you to help me, lol.  Thanks for adding this additional idea.   : )

I was think along these lines but to buy one is so expensive:

Enjoy and be sure to post your finished project, I can't wait to see what your clever and creative self comes up with.

That's so nice for you to say so.   And I will be sure to bring it back when I get it done.  Hopefully that will be sooner than later.  :)

I like the ideas you added too.  It just seems so smart to take up one space to store and sleep instead of multiple pieces of furniture.

I hope this shows up OK,  Barrett's Bed was easy, took 3 of us less than 4 hours and around $200 in 1x6 and 1x4 wood. Its a Queen size loft bed, Barrett loves it. Hope this kinda helps, one of the best room adding ideas Aimee came up with. We've had ALOT of weight up there and not even worried about it falling...Ohhh and its portable, we can move it around the room, it stands on its own...

This is amazing!   Thank you for sharing your handy work with us.
