Polk Moms

Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.

Got a packet in the mail today from DentaQuest saying they are the "NEW" Prepaid Dental Plan for Children's Medicaid.  Dr Montgomery is not on the list and not in  their system either when I called.  I was told that this went into effect Oct 1, 2012 and here it is Nov 7, 2012.  You  think it should have been in the mail sooner cause what if I had taken him to the dentist.  I bet I would have gotten a bill after they were denied Medicaid payment.  I am still going to call the Medicaid office tomorrow to see if this is correct and was switched.  Finally got a dentist he loves and I am happy with.

If we have to switch they gave me a list to choose from.  Besides the Health Clinic for dental, there's:

Coast Dental on Socrum Loop Rd (Plantation Square)

Walding & Assoc on S. Fla

Coast Dental on S. Fla & Lakekand Highlands

Besides other dentists in Auburndale, Zephyrhills, Plant City

Has anyone been there with kids whether with Medicaid or private insurance?  If so what do you think of them??  I am going to miss Dr. Montgomery because they were very kid friendly and answered any questions you had.  Plus they took his work in stages as not to freak him out to where he doesn't ever want to go.

Thanks Tabby, I will definitely check with Dr Montgomery and see if I can get Sawyer in to see her. I love his neurologist in Lakeland and his pediatrician in Haines City, so was really happy I could get a plan both take. Now I'm looking for an eye doctor and an ear doctor that will take a 5 year old since he didn't pass his eye exam or his hearing exam during his last visit. He sees his pediatrician, Dr McRae again next week for his 5 year well child checkup and will have the tests repeated, but I'm sure we will get the same results. Hopefully they will have some recommendations for us, too.

I would say to see if Dr Montgomery (dentist) in Lakeland takes the MCNA Dental plan.  I know she does not take DentaQuest.  I prefer her and glad I was able to switch back  to Medicaid to keep her.  He used to have Dr. Yasrebi and when she got another person in there to help her, my son was dropped after waiting in the office for a cleaning that day for 4 hours.  Between running late on their part, misplacing his chart and deciding to not see him, I was plenty ticked off that day.

As for Neurology we go to Dr Davis in Orlando.  He is wonderful.  Hated to switch to locally so was pretty happy to learn there was no one in town that took the Medicaid.

Hope others here can help with a dentist for you.

J, thank you! They assigned us to MCNA so I don't think I will switch to Dentaquest since all the good recommendations  don't seem to take that one. Is Dr Bopp in Lakeland, too?

@ Nijuana My son has medicaid & goes to Dr.Bopp. Like Tabby said they placed each child on a dental plan. Medicaid placed my child with Dentaquest & Dr. Bopp does not accept it. I switched back over to MCNA so he is able to continue going to Dr. Bopp. You can make the change online! I'm not sure which is better, but with DentaQuest there were not many dentist to chose from. If you decide to make a change you can do it online. It's fast & simple all you need to do is go to Medicaidoptions.net

Hubbell Eye Clinic takes Medicaid and Jesse goes there.  As for ears....We go to Dr Matallana ENT (got great reviews from the parents here for him as well as Dr Montgomery for the dentist).  Very well pleased with all of them.  Below you will find a link to Hubbell Eye, a link to Dr Mongomery and the info for the ENT.

Jesse's previous eye doctor was in Altamont Springs (other side of Orlando) they stopped taking Medicaid. His ENT was at All Children's in Tampa on Bruce B Downs, but they doctor he had was contracted to work there and left (did not know this the whole time we went). He moved and was to far to drive to.  His dentist after what Yasribi's office did to us, was out on Davis Island in Tampa (partnership split and he moved to far to travel to as well).  Just switched his pediatrician from Orlando to Lakeland.  He was born at Arnold Palmer in Orlando and really hated to change doctors, but the drives out there just get to be to much at times.

Gosh I understand trying to stay close to home. I am disabled and medically unable to drive due to narcolepsy so have to depend on my husband to drive us to all appointments. I can't even count how many appointments just since August we have had in Tampa and Lakeland. I hate traveling to Orlando, it's so busy and we don't know our way around at all, so try to keep it west if possible.

Luckily some of his Tampa doctors actually travel to Lakeland each week or several times a month so that helps. Dr Arasu is his Gastrointerologist and we see him in Lakeland, but he's actually based in Tampa. When Sawyer had to have an emergency appendectomy on Labor Day we took him to the ER in Davenport/Haines City and they transferred him to St Joseph's Children's Hospital where Dr Pham performed his surgery (best surgeon ever, we LOVE him). A lot of his MRI's and other testing has been done at All Children's, so we are kinda familiar with both of those hospitals and clinics.

I am definitely going to check your suggestions for the eye doc and ENT because we will need those soon.

Thank you so much for your help!!

DentaQuest is best. I had MCNA and i had higher copays for dental work than DentaQuest.

Thank you Darlene, I will definitely call and ask about copays. Didn't even think about that...duh, I have my empty-headed moments!
