Mom posts pic of baby with bong on Facebook

We can go on so many angles with this Florida story. From picture privacy settings on facebook to a teenage mom's hind site being a little clearer after the fact.

What do you think of this story? The picture in question is at the link. Do you think this should pass as a joke or should this mother be prosecuted?

Have you seen questionable personal pictures on facebook? If so, would you take the steps to report it, or let sleeping dogs lie?

I saw this awhile back - I still like to read the Jacksonville news sites from time to time since moving from there a couple years ago.

My opinion is this: There's no fixing stupid. Even if her privacy settings were in place, most people have quite a few "friends" they really don't know well. Any one of her listed friends could find offense with the picture and turn her in. She states she took the picture to show one person. A private email with the picture attached would have been better, although personally I don't see what's cute about a baby with a bong whether there's anything in the bong or not.Making matters worse is her response to Channel 4 News - with the f word all over the place. I really think a bit of restraint would have helped her there. A reaction like that's not going to help in how people view her, including DCF at this point.

Now, I don't mean to come across all high and mighty. I do admit to not always having good sense on facebook. At one time I had an album titled "Reasons Why I Drink" and the cover picture was of my 3yr old with poop across his cheek, flung on his by a brother in a septic repair. I thought it was funny (and to be honest I still giggle a bit - it you can't laugh, you'll cry) but I did end up removing the whole album when I started thinking about my friend list and the fact that one day I may want to go back to work and facebook could come back to bite me.

well times have really changed since i was a kid thats for sure. i have pictures of me with a beer bottle in diapers. my mom used to tie my walker to a tree and let me chase the tied cat around the tree. don't worry she was always close by hanging laundry on the line. it's just something to laugh at.

maybe i'm too layed back but i don't see a problem with the picture. now if there was smoke coming out of it. then yes i would have a problem. you do have to be careful with what you post on any web page or site. they could end up anywhere.

well, first of all, I have no idea what a bong looks like, so I never would have even known what he was holding in that picture. :) honestly!! But, on the other hand, if the mom was older, would people still be reacting the same way? I don't know, I think a lot of people are very quick to judge young parents, my mom was only 17 when she had me & my dad 20 & I think they did a pretty great job, if I do say so myself. So this mom had a lapse in judgement & now she is angry & scared. Hopefully they will find the baby to be fine & her too. That being said, if I had any pictures of my daughter holding a beer or such, I would never, ever put them on Facebook, print them at Walgreens or even share them with anyone. I am even nervous to print up pictures of her in the bathtub - which are always taken at the right angle so you can't see any personal parts of her - after hearing about the family who had their children taken away after they printed some pictures at Walmart of their kids in a bathtub & were turned in for child porn.
