Official: Missing woman's husband blows up house to kill himself, 2 sons

Official: Missing woman's husband blows up house to kill himself, 2...

I've been following this story when it was just a missing person case and it's truly tragic it has escalated to this.  What a horribly sad ending and a shocking discovery to read.

According to some of the comments, the sons were reported to have said that mom was in the trunk when they went camping. I remember this story and thought right off the bat that the dad was guilty of killing the mom. Who takes two small children camping in the snow on a below freezing night on Christmas Eve??? Mom probably discovered his child porn and he flipped out. So why was he given visitation when he a. clearly murdered his wife although they haven't proven it yet...but it sounds like there is plenty of circumstantial evidence including testimony from the boys and b. was convicted for possession of child porn? So many of these kids fall through the cracks. Our system is so broken.

The boys should have had supervised visitation some place other than their home. The judge who allowed this must have a very heavy heart right now. Some day maybe we will see the system change an be it for the children. We were foster parents for years an you have to really fight to keep children in a safe home.

Justice delayed, is justice denied.

While I appreciate the time it takes to gather evidence to make a solid case.  The fact that most of the public has no ideal what it takes to prosecute successfully. This story points to distinct problems. That being the lack of fortitude in this particular case by those with the ability to start the prosecution of this case, with so much that was well known, along with just a small amount of common sense judgement. The husband/father's story from the beginning did not make sense. Then the lack of will, on the part of those that have the authority to protect the innocent that may be caught up in the dangers of being around a likely out of control murderer.  There were too many red flags from the beginning in the father's response, and the father's lack of full cooperation in this investigaton.

That being said. We do have the best judicial system currently in the world. But with very little justice.

Judicial and Justice are not synonymous.

In fact, Justice lays beneath the feet of the Judicial system. Soiled and tattered, Justice is rinsed in the muddy murky waters of the Judicial process.  Where the Judicial process reigns king, and facts, truth and fairness matter not.

But like a broken clock, and maybe only slighty more often. The "process" is correct some of the time, in spite of itself.

Dad who killed self, sons in blaze left voicemail

As if this story wasn't chilling enough, I read the following from the above link:

An autopsy showed the children also suffered hatchet wounds to their necks.

Seriously can not imagine how a person could do this and there were two children.  That means one child most likely saw the other hacked to death.  It makes a momma's stomach sick to be sure!

This article give a lot more info. It is also more clear that it was not the boys' father who was arrested for child porn and voyeurism, but it was the grandfather, with whom they lived. The grandfather also apparently said he had a relationship with the missing mom on a TV interview! They are both creeps! That poor woman and those poor boys! Another heartbreaking story.

It's bad enough to read about this tragic event but can you imagine being this poor woman, hearing a child crying and then seeing the house explode?

This story has haunted me for days.  :(

Frantic Social Worker Tried to Alert Authorities Before House Exploded

I can't read the stories anymore either. I saw the initial breaking news headline and story, but since - don't want to know. It's such a sick sad world and I can live the rest of my life without the details on this one :( It just makes my heart so sad! Kill yourself. By all means. Especially if you had something to do with the disappearance of your wife. Let the kids go.

It's haunting to read of Susan Powell's own words of worry of her own fate before she became a missing person.   She journaled and wrote messages she kept in a safe deposit box asking for an investigation if anything ever was to happen to her. This poor woman had a gut feeling something bad may come to her.

Are you surprised, reading the evidence details added at the link,Docs show evidence piled up in Utah disappearance there wasn't an arrest of the husband before his suicide?

I really think they were trying to build a very strong case against him, without a body it's very hard to get a conviction. I'm curious about how much blood evidence was found on the floor - if it's just a little it could be argued in court it was a nose bleed or minor fall or something along those lines. The sofa was recently cleaned, which can be suspicious, but if it was clean enough not to have anything left behind on it there's nothing they can use from that. Personally I think they should have arrested him, but if it's all circumstantial evidence or stuff that can be explained enough for reasonable doubt, they'd have been hard pressed to get a conviction.

On the other hand - if you are ever worried enough about what your spouse may do to you that you put a letter in a safe deposit box urging an investigation if you die... LEAVE! File papers, try to get a restraining order, get a big dog or a big knife or a nice gun or a taser or SOMETHING and GET OUT!! It makes me so very sad for her that she had that worry, even if it was just a nagging voice in the back of her head - it was enough of a concern she documented it. :( The marriage isn't worth working on at that point, IMO. I suppose it's possible she was worried if she did leave he'd have visitation with the kids (unless she had hard evidence to prevent that) and could be dangerous to them. IDK the whole thing is just so sad :( and messed up :(
