Polk Moms

Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.

I walked into my son's room and am just so overwhelmed at everything in there. Got a notebook of what I like to get done in there and hoping I can take what is in my mind for organizing and get it in motion.  He's got so many games (PS 2, regular Xbox, PS 3, Xbox 360, and Wii).  I know the smartest thing to do is to trade in or sell the ones he no longer plays or has beaten, but he refuses.  His reasoning is he may want to play it later on (he got that from hubby).  So today I am going to look into a few totes to put the PS 2 and Xbox games in.  This will open a bit more room  to store the more up to date games.  Target has ornament totes for $7 which would work good.

He pulled out his Thomas trains from under his bed, so he'll put those back in the totes today.  I really wish he would part with them, but he doesn't.  He already parted with any duplicates, extra tracks, the play and go, and some buildings.  He sold them to get other stuff.

As for the rest of the house, I feel over whelmed.  It will be slow and steady work.  There is just so much.  Got a lot of papers that can be shredded, but may just burn them to make it easier.  There will be  A LOT of things going out the door.  I got so much stuff that we don't use and really do not need anymore.  The laundry room is going to be the worst to go through.  Hoping to get out my coffee table from there and reorganize the shelves.

As for our bedroom.  I don't even want to think about that.  LOL  Got a bunch of boxes that can be broken down (from electronics that we still need to hold onto) and a bunch more to toss.  The closet is going to be a nightmare.  I can store a bit of stuff in there since it's so big.  May be able to put Jesse's trains in there.

I can picture in my mind how I would love for it to look, but then it comes down to trying to do it and the money to get everything.  Going to be a very productive New Year (I hope). LOL

Picked up a Rubbermaid food storage set for $7 at Wal-Mart.  Made a list of other things to get once I get going.  May have found the perfect container for Jesse's games, but first I need to gather and remove all toys and clothes that can go out.  Looks like tomorrow I'll be under the sink clearing out all the old containers with lids, some missing lids and lids missing containers.  May get some of the canisters to put in the baking pantry too.  Even found an over the pantry door organizer (I have free standing pantries so I can't use it as that).  Good thing is you don't have to set it up over the door.  It's adjustable to even hang on  the walls.  Would work great in my laundry room and maybe even Jesse's room.  We'll see.

I get the same organinizing bug that you do, Tabby.  When I start to put my Christmas decorations away, I also try to declutter my house.  Right now, because my son and a friend have the garage filled with their motorcycles and accessories, it is hard to move in there.  I still have the Halloween decorations in the den. :(  Hopefully the weekend weather will cooperate so that I can get in to the garage, myself.  If I can get them to pull out the motorcycles for a few hours, I may be able to put some items in the attic and clear other things out.  I am working on the kitchen today in between removing the outside Christmas lights.  Get bored working on one thing at a time (or maybe just get distracted).  Then I will hit the den.  Storing some of my son's and daughter's things in there.  If I can clear a space in the garage, out they go!  Good luck to you!

Thanks Cheryl.  Good luck to you as well.  I just went through the food storage containers and tossed a bunch of odd things.  I do have a small set of storage containers and lids.  I also went through all the containers I cleaned out from my mom's instant coffee and jelly jars.  My recycle trash can is about half full and I still got more to go through in a bit.  Luckily they come on Friday to pick up.

I am the same way with jumping from room to room.  Not sure if it's boredom from one room or did I develop adult ADD.  LOL  Like right now I know what I need to do in the kitchen, but my mind is thinking of the bathroom and livingroom.  I had thought to run to the Dollar General to grab some storage containers, but not sure what I need right now so I'll wait and make a list.

I can't do to much as hubby is sleeping.  He's got to go to work tonight.  Going to be a bunch of hungover people there tonight...LOL  Guess for now I can grab a quick bite to eat and then install my computer virus protection.  Expires tomorrow so nothing like waiting to the last minute.  I have to call them with the code for them to remotely do it on my tower on  their end.  My drive has been broke for a couple years now and we've just not fixed it.  May just have them do the same for Jesse's computer.  Hubby didn't bring his computer out so will need to that one later today.

Back to the grind now :)

Went to the Dollar General today by the house to see about some storage containers and the canisters for the kitchen.  What a bust!!  The only thing they had was glass canisters for $10.  What ever happened to the plastic canister sets that nestled in each other for $5-$10.  May need to check out the other Dollar General on 98N (past Marcum Rd) and maybe the Family Dollar on Memorial.  I know what the prices are in Walmart, I just thought I could find it a bit cheaper.  Will keep looking.  The one totes I wanted at the Dollar Tree to put the games in were all sold out when I went back a day later.  Should have gotten them the day I was in there.  Oh well.

May reuse the food storage containers I bagged up yesterday.  Not 100% sure I will, but we'll see.  Got to get back into the kitchen today.  Got the whole area to the left of the stove to clear out.  So much stuff.  Sometimes it's overwhelming but it needs to be done.  Isn't the old saying "slow and steady wins the race"?  Well I figure slow and steady will get it done...LOL

Got 1 pantry done.  Took almost all day between people coming and going, toilet backing up, having to run to the store, and finally getting the clog freed.  Need to grab a few more storage containers to put a few extra leftover stragglers away.  Plus grab a bit more to get into the other pantry which holds my baking stuff.  Even though it took a long time, I am pleased with it.  I'll have to find my camera cord and download a picture of the after.  Wish I remembered to do a before picture, but no one is perfect...LOL

I did gather a list of everything I have and I can cook from the pantry for the next week with the stuff I have to go with it in the freezer.  Found 2 boxes of lasagna noodles (some broke) so I can do a crock pot lasagna.  I picked up a bunch of chop meat for 50% at the Dollar General Market.  Freezer is over full now.

Got some more totes today and redid a few things in the pantry from yesterday.  Was able to get all  the oatmeal and grits packets in 1 container as well as the fruit snacks and granola bars are in another.  Did not do anything else today since I was not feeling well.

The only thing I did do was embarrass a few class mates with posting our elementary class pics on Facebook.  What memories.  A few have passed away over the years though so made you think of the good times before they left.

Finally got to the second free standing pantry a little while ago.  OMG...is all I have to say on that one.  I tossed out all expired items.  Felt bad cause I bought most of it at a good buy, but never used it.  No more buying it on a great deal if I am not going to use it before it expires.  I ran out of the totes I bought for it because I used 2 in the other pantry.  So will need to grab some more when I head back to Wal-Mart.

I better start baking too cause I have tons of chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, cherry chips and mint chips.  They are all still good.  Put some of the boxed goodies to bake in the pantry.  Got 7 boxes of Krusteaz Cinnamon Crumb Cake.  No need to buy the Entenmann's pound cake that is on BOGO sale that ends tomorrow.

Never did get into Jesse's room just yet.  Kitchen really needs to be cleaned and organized.  Oh heck, all rooms need to be done.  Just jumping from room to room.  Not sure if it is ADD or what...LOL
