Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.
Hi All,
I am looking for a little help. I am looking for the plastic pants that children wear for potty training. Walmart, Target and the local dollar stores have been no help. Walmart and Target have them online but I need them a.s.a.p.
I would like the ones that have a thin padding liner or even the plain plastic ones without a liner. My little girl (Size 2) is SO ready to get rid of diapers but I am growing weary of washing clothes daily.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Jackie
Locally, I found some of the Gerber ones in Sears/Kmart on S. Florida years ago and the Target on Harden had them too. Check local Craigslist under "cloth diapers". You can call children's consignment stores too. There was a local woman (Bartow/Mulberry area) who made cloth diapers on Etsy.com. She might have some already made. Good luck!
Permalink Reply by JGS on January 4, 2013 at 7:32pm Thanks for the tips! All the major big box stores: KMart, WalMart, & Target even Babies R Us have them online only. I tried Craigslist but nothing too enticing there.
I guess I have to suck it up for the next few days waiting for delivery. I will definitely try Etsy.com.
Thanks for your help! Wish I had thought of buying these LONG before we started this.

Permalink Reply by Tabby on January 4, 2013 at 8:50pm What about the pull ups for potty training? I did try the plastic pants, but it was so messy. It ended up leaking and them I had to keep washing the bedding and use a plastic sheet under his regular sheet as to stop it from hitting the mattress. I tossed the plastic sheet and folded a towel up under the sheet just incase. I finally broke down and bought the training pads for dogs to put under the sheet to protect the mattress. I had some pads that my mom's friend gave her from when she was in the hospital. Was basically the same stuff as the dog pads. I know that sounded bad, but it was cheap. LOL I ended up switching to the pull ups. I think they are more in demand in the stores than the plastic pants. Not everyone wants to deal with a mess. I used to get the pull ups that gave a cooling sensation to make them realize they had to use the potty.
Permalink Reply by Stacey Lee Lockwood on January 5, 2013 at 10:26am The problem I have found with pull-ups is that to a toddler they feel just like a diaper. We started with our son before he was two. I knew that he knew what it was. So I just put him in regular underwear...I think he may have had 3 accidents before he understood what the "feeling" meant. He has been in regular underwear ever since. I put him in a pull-up at night just in case, but he almost always wakes up dry. As long as he doesnt have pants on he can go tothe bathroom by himself and take it off to get on the potty. He is just a few months over 2. Every child is different though. Best of luck! :)
Permalink Reply by Tabby on January 5, 2013 at 11:25am With Jesse he has developmental issues from being a preemie. We had him potty trained for #1 for a couple years (3-4 yrs old), but #2 was another story. Even in regular underwear he could care less if he sat in it. It wasn't till we started him on ADHD medication at age 5-6 yrs old that he was 100% potty trained in that first week and we've never looked back since. Of course we have issues with wiping so needless to say at almost 13 yrs old it is no fun for me. We've tried everything and I turned to the internet, other parents and his therapists with no luck at all. Tried the bribes, used gloves, did the wipe and drop (without looking), tried wet wipes, and nothing. I now know what my friend goes through with her autistic son. He's 15 yrs old and can not wipe either. I am going to throw one heck of a party the day he does wipe his own backside, until then I am always here to help him. Yes I even let him sit on the toilet and refused to help him, but he sat there for 20 mins. He outlasted me, I broke down to help him. Any suggestions that we haven't tried would be great. About to seek a hypnotist to see if they can help him. Most help with issues like fear and quitting smoking. Never know :)
Permalink Reply by Stacey Lee Lockwood on January 5, 2013 at 4:47pm Have you tried having him hold the tissue or wet wipe and then you guide his hand to help him wipe? Having him "help" you wipe him every time he goes might help the habit/routine stick.
Permalink Reply by Tabby on January 5, 2013 at 7:34pm We tried it, but he gags. A few times he threw up with it.

Walmart on Van Fleet in Bartow does have waterproof pants in-store despite the website claim they are online only. I picked up a four pack of Carter"s Waterproof Pants there this morning. They were by the children's underwear aisle under a big pile of cloth diaper packages.
I also grabbed a bag of Pull-Ups but I would like to avoid using them if possible, they are too much like a regular diaper and twice as expensive.
Thanks again!
