Polk Moms

Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.

We are finally settling in after moving to Lakeland a week ago. We are zoned for Dixieland Elementary and I hear its a great school and everyone is so nice. I still want to look at other options for education. If you know of any excellent private schools nearby please let me know. I have a rising K5 and a 2nd grader. The few schools I have been referred to are:

Lakeland Christian Schools

Victory Christian Academy

Sonrise Christian School

All information is greatly appreciated. We live near Lakeland Village Outdoor Mall (which we love). So a school not to far away from home or my work (GEICO)..

Thanks

I would suggest that you visit Geneva Classical Academy in Lakeland.  You can goggle to get more info and a t/p #. The school has a new address from that which is currently listed, so give them a call.

Your girls would be very welcomed, and challenged. You will find the headmaster, teachers, staff and other parents to be friendly and an extended family.

Welcome to Lakeland and their sister communites.

Resurrection Catholic School is very close to you - definitely check them out.

We have good magnet and charter schools too, but there is a lottery system to get in, so it wouldn't be immediate, or maybe not at all..but worth trying. Go to the school board website charter/magnet section for details. Otherwise, Lakeland Christian is very close to you, but is pricier than the Resurrection. If one of your children has an IEP, you can get tuition assistance for private school through the McKay scholarship.

First welcome to Lakeland!! I hope you and your family feel right at home quickly!

We are fortunate to have many great schools in Lakeland but doing your homework is a smart move. I would highly recommend St. Paul Lutheran School. They are located at 4450 Harden Boulevard, which is just south of the Lakeside Village outdoor mall. Please take the time to visit the school and along with all the important academic questions be sure to ask about the "Chapel families" and the student lead Praise and Worship band. If you have the pleasure of sneaking out for lunch, St. Paul is conveniently close for you to enjoy lunch with your girls now and then too! Below is the office # and if you have anymore specific questions feel free to shoot me an email, sheri@startyourjourney.com

Best of luck to you!
