Polk Moms

Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.

I am wanting to take my kids and my nieces to the shows at the library this summer, and my questions is for those that have been to the shows with younger children. Is it frowned upon? The ages I would have are 10, 8, 6, 4, 1.5 :), and 1. I just didn't know if they didn't want you to bring younger children. I was in there once when my daughter was 2 and the man at the counter mentioned to me that I could check books out online and have them delivered(which is awesome) so I didn't have to come in, and since then I have been very hesitant in taking my kids there, which is horrible for me because I would love for them to grow up loving books and the library as much as I do. Any advice on whether I should take  them would be very welcomed :)

I have been there with small kids. For the summer show they do ask that the kids sit nice on the floor and be kinda quiet. But remember the shows are for kids so they do know kids get antsy. If they are being noisy just take the noisy one in the hall for a minute till they settle down. It is a fun time and the kids will enjoy most of the shows. I take my kids to the fort Meade summer shows.

I used to do the book babies that's birth to age 2 and the lady who used to do it was amazing she was sooo good with the kids, had them dancing and singing and did finger plays. It was such a fun time. I really loved it. Then she got promoted and another lady does it now. She is NOT good with little kids. She wants the kids (under 2 yr olds) to sit still and listen to her books. I have been twice since she took over and both times she has made unwanted comments towards my kids. It's not worth it. I haven't been back since.

The Children's librarian in Bartow did the same with my youngest - if you wiggle, you're in trouble. We won't return again. It seems like a waste of a lovely and expensive facility. We do LOVE Lake Wales Public Library - they are second to none! We go by several times a week!

Bryssy, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. I agree it's a wonderful program and library. They just need a children's librarian who is good with kids.

Okay, good to know it isn't just me being too sensitive. I remember going to the old Bartow library and if you were in the kids section there was always a lady there and she was always happy to see you there and read whatever book you brought to her, I spent a lot of time on that rug. I loved trips to the library as a kid and would like to find a place that gives my kids the same feeling.  I may try out Lake Wales or Lakeland.
