Oh, I hate to sound like a fuddy dud but I'm going to go ahead and throw my opinion out here on this one and it may not be popular with the teen crowd.  I really do think schools should crack down on prom attire.

Last weekend I was lucky enough to go to Carrabbas in Winter Haven for dinner.  As I was walking out, a group of teens walked in.  My daughter was jaw dropped amazed at the glitter and dazzle before us.   I was jaw dropped amazed at the lack of fabric and the amount of skin before us.

Two of the young ladies we saw had their stomachs and backs exposed with complete cut outs.  The dresses were only held together by thin bandings on each side attached from ribs to hip.

Do you think a prom dress code should be imposed at our local schools?

Why should one have to apologize for attempting to instill standards of behavior with children.  After all, they  are children, unless over the age of 18 (actually still a child), but it is still a public school function so for those few over the age 18, they can abide or abstain from the prom.

Many of the increase problems of our society, is the result of parents and school administrators trying to be friends first, instead of role modles and leaders.  Just observe how many of the parents and children interact with each other. Other than their size, it's sometimes hardpressed to determine who exactly is in control?

There are serious reprecussion to such child rearing, or should I say the lack of?

P.S.  Most parent chaperones and school officals allow simulated sex dance in their high school dances or prom activity.  Is that what being an adult is about?

Has anyone walked the halls of the high schools lately. Why expect them to dress appropriately for the prom when they are allowed to walk the halls of the schools half dressed! Dress codes don't help when they are not enforced.

It's amazing the lack of intelligence and just a minimal amount of morals within our citizenry.  For life does not go on in a vaccum.  Either good standards of behavior or the  lack of will take place with an individual and society.  Our schools do not instill, nor enforce the decency of their charges.  Check the hallways.  Check the dances.  Just observe.

Very valid points.  I live near the Bartow High School and have seen some AMAZING things walk out of there.  I guess my train of thought is prom attire usually costs a bit more than average school wear and would think a parent may need to be part of the purchase experience.   I do realize some teens may have their own cash flow but I'm reflecting back on my own prom experience of parents paying.  So, if the parent is involved (paying) how can they say yes to the dress when there's hardly anything there?

Ugh!

I know about resourcefulness!! I have my last 2 of nine in high school now, and I am their worst nightmare!!  I really don't think the schools would do anything about the dress code at the door, when they don't do anything daily at school. And what about the parents who let them dress the way they do?
