Polk Moms

Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.

Last night our son's bike was stolen from our yard. We believe it was by other kids that live in and/or around our area.  Granted it was given to us by our kind neighbors (who's sons bike was also stolen).  Our son has issues and can not ride a regular bike so we were gifted with a 3 wheeled bike from our neighbors. We were going to start working on it this weekend as a family project.

It is a blue 3 wheeled bike, silver wire basket in the back, cheap horn on the bars, loose left rear tire (one of the rear tires has a spot of pink glitter paint in the tread), and has some rust.  It was stolen from Stoll Manor park off Walt Williams Rd.

I just filed a police report and notified both the officers at the high school and middle school.  If you know the person or folks that took it, please ask them to return it and we will not press charges. I would call the police back to let them know it was dropped back and to close the case.

Thank you in advance :)

Tabby, I am so sorry to read this!  :(   I hope, in some way, your bike will be returned.

It amazes me how brazen thieves can be.   A few years ago we had a neighbor kid come down to our house on his bike and leaned it against our house to come in.   We were all home and when he went to leave, his bike was gone.   Again, while we were home.... just blows my mind.

Oh wow!!!  That is brazen!!  I looked online for new ones and they aren't cheap by any means.  I did see they sell a stabilizer, like adult training wheels but they aren't cheap either.  It amazes me because there's a home here that has bikes strewn in their yard/carport and one is a bike for handicap and nothing stolen. So many bikes lying around and they targeted us and my neighbor.  I will be out and about tonight and this weekend looking for it when the kids are hanging out.  I am surprised my dogs didn't hear a thing.  Plus these kids need to realize that people often have guns and will go out to protect their stuff at any cost if they hear things.

We had teens a couple years ago running around here at 3am.  Called the cops and by they time they responded here (not deemed an emergency) they were long gone.  The officer tells me, not to go out at that hour so no one would get hurt because who knows if they had weapons.  When you have a dog, there's no choice but to go out with them.  We can't have fences and I am not having them do their business in the house.  Unless he wants to come clean it up for me :)

Keep a look out for the bike on Craigslist, too.

They also stole a bike from the neighbor that gave us the 3 wheel and possible another bike a few homes down too.  She's sleeping when I just went over so I'll try back later.  I don't want to jump the gun incase her son is out with it.  Waiting on the neighbor across from us to see if that bike was stolen too.  He usually, but not always locks it to the carport.

I don't get that there's tons of bikes laying loose in yards around here, yet we get hit here.  Watching Craigslist and a local ads.  Will hang out a bit tonight to see what I find out.  This weekend hubby will be home to go out more late night when the teens will be out.

Tabby it may have also been picked up by one of those numerous people that drive all over town & through neighborhoods for scrap to sell to the scrap yards too.  Especially if it was left near the road.  Just an idea.  Sure hope you manage to find it but I doubt you will unfortunately.  Anyway good luck.

There are 2 Spanish ladies that walk in the mornings and they said they seen a grey truck with a bike in the back.  They didn't get a look at the driver.  Thinking it may be a parent of a kid that took it and decided to get it out till the heat dies down so their kid doesn't get into trouble.  We had it up under our kitchen window about 40 feet from the road.  As was my neighbors sons bike too.  I think one of the other lots was hit to because her teenage sons bike is missing too from there he keeps it.  They had to walk between 40-50 feet onto the lots to get our bikes.

My dad sent me a link to a new adult tricycle for just under $200.  All I found online at Walmart was $285 and up. Will see what hubby wants to do.

Very good point.   Metal prices are high and people are scouting for a bit of metal like dogs looking for bones.
