Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.
I just want to vent for no particular reason and I figured this would be a good place to do it so if I ramble just excuse it lol. My husband just got laid off from his job just in time for the holidays :( I have been a stay at home mom for the last 5 years and am just now starting to look for a job. I have had a couple of interviews and some went good and some went bad.
Im stressing about what we are going to do for Christmas for my kids.
I need to find a job now so I wont fall back on our bills
I am a full time student.
I am sure I will have more to post but I don't want to sound like a blubbering idiot
Have a good all :)

Ups and downs are part of all of our lives. Of course it can often seem we can receive more of a "not fair"portion than others.
What gets me through my tough stuff is this, I have to believe it happens for a reason. If you think back about what has stressed you most in your past, I can almost bet it shaped you to what you are today. And you got through it. Possibly to even help better able you in these new trying times. It may not feel like it now, but this unbearable path may present with a better end coming. Take everyday a little at a time, find the beauty in at least one thing, and relish it.
Another helper, when we are down emotionally it's hard to remember the good stuff. Make a list of what you're thankful for and read it everyday.
I know how you feel about Christmas, it's hard to not feel you're not letting the kids down. We are still weeks away from Christmas and hopefully you'll be financially better by then. But if you feel you need assistance, ask around and search for a solution.
Do you have any school-aged children? The reason I ask is that many locally based non-profit organizations will reach out to guidance counselors for suggestions on adopting families to help them provide for holiday spending that are struggling.
Also, Toys for Tots has a link that can be used to request gifts for children.
Good luck! I really wish you happy days ahead!
Thank you so much for your kind words. I will continue to have happy and hopeful thoughts. I will also check into those several different ways you suggested.
Thank You
Permalink Reply by Tabby on November 14, 2012 at 6:13pm Stacy, Sorry to hear this. I know it's hard especially with holidays coming. I am keeping fingers crossed it all works out for you. I don't know where he worked at, but maybe he could try Advance Auto Parts (warehouse out off County Line Rd), the Advance Auto Parts stores (they seem to be hiring or atleast taking apps). Try the Coke Cola plant off Kathleen Rd too. I hear Coke is always hiring. I cringe the day I have to go out to get a job. I haven't worked in 13 yrs (I went out on total bed rest when I was pregnant and stayed home for him after that). I can imagine how hard it must be.
Shawn is right on contacting a school guidance counselor to see what organizations are out there. They know a bit more. Try the Salvation Army on Mass just off of Memorial. I went to them in the past for help at Christmas with food and toys. Also try Lighthouse Ministries. Lake Gibson Middle School just did a HUGE food drive last week with them for those that need help.
Wishing you luck and hope everything works out for you and your family. I know it's hard to think about, but it will get better. We've been there so I know.
You can go to www.oneblood.org and click on the employment link. I started as a lab assistant and the pay was over $10/hr to start which isn't bad in today's economy. I know they have an opening at the Lakeland (Bloodnet) location. Hope this helps.
I have been in your shoes before so I completely understand what you are going through. I personally just kept my spirits high and prayed a lot. Remember things will get better.
Hope this helps!
Thank you Tabby I will definitely be looking into all this information. :)

So sorry you are going through this right now. Do you have a friend or family member who could help you out with the kids for a little while? You are probably so overwhelmed with all that you need to do to keep your family as close to their regular routines as possible. I would go to temp agencies like Adecco, Rita, etc. and Polk Works too. Check Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com. You can check Craigslist, but most of those jobs are hoaxes so be careful. Do you have a skill or trade you can work with in the mean time? Could you babysit? I have heard ads for 211 on Orlando radio stations. I don't know if we have it here in Polk, but basically it is a central place for all assistance. You tell them what you need help with, and they find agencies/charities that can help you.
