Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.
I have noticed I am redirected to a new homepage after reading a Ledger article. Most often my browser is directed to News Chief, rather than returning to the Ledger homepage. Is this somehow a marketing effort by the Ledger to increase traffic report revenue and sell the site soon or just a lack of attention by reporters, the editing and the IT department? The truth is it hurts the quality of Ledger more than it helps.

dying print news attempting to survive on advertising , much like a circular...inept , poor , too-often biased excuse for reporters (dui's or not) , reporting , and proof-reading...BUT still better than nothing , still the old mullet wrappers i helped roll up on the unloading dock in the late 50's , early 60's , i recall biking through darkened moorehead or"the quarters" dirt roads and down around lake beulah , earning a little spending money delivering them ,. dogs barking and chasing... extra , tightly-rolled papers kept them at bay..yep , still better than no paper at all . lol.
Permalink Reply by Ledger Media on January 4, 2013 at 10:49am Newschief.com has become the Ledger Media Group's niche site for news from East Polk County. Stories from both Ledger and News Chief reporters that involve East Polk are now published with a newschief.com template.
If you hit the "back" button after reading an article with the newschief.com template, you will return to the page on theledger.com that you clicked from. If you see an article where that's not happening, please send me an email at barry.friedman@theledger.com with the link of the story and the page you clicked from.

Permalink Reply by Ledger Media on January 4, 2013 at 2:14pm Good point, Shawn. This is very similar to a reader clicking on an entertainment story and going to a timeoutpolk.com page, clicking on a prep sports story and going to a polkpreps.com page, or clicking on a political story and going to a politicsinpolk.com page.
This is a different complaint, but bad script on the Ledger pages has been a big frustration for me.
The Ledger will force the page to reload while I'm reading it. Very annoying. But I get that it makes more "views" for their ads.
But what is really a pain is that the scripts on pages (presumably the ads) often causes my browser to crash. It's not every page, but it happens a couple times each day. This doesn't happen on any other site.
My browser (ie9) is kept updated and is regularly and thoroughly scanned by multiple anti-virus and anti-malware systems. Friends and family bring their laptops to me to clean and fix. My system is as clean a browser as you will find.
I would read all the news on the Ledger site to support the local paper, but this is such a pain that I only read local news here and switch to other sites for all the other news.
