Polk Moms

Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.

I have a toddler that is in the throws of his terrible twos.  Actually he will be 3 next week but we're still dealing with tantrums and the inability to sit still for very long!!!!  I have been trying to find some fun activities to get him out of the house so he's not so bored.  Does ayone know of anything we can do other then the park?  He doesn't sit still enough for storytime at the library, bummer!!  I wish I could find a playgroup so he could play with other kids his own age.  Any ideas??

PS...we live in Winter Haven
Hello, I also have a little boy who is two. He will be three in november. I have the same problems with him. I tried taking him to the free movie at the cobb but, that didn't work so we left about 20mins into it. (good thing it was free lol) He won't sit still at the library either. Maybe it is just a boy thing because my girls were never this wild. lol I feel like it is too hot at the park because the poor little guy is sweating after playing for 10 mins. I don't have any suggestions by I am also all ears if anyone has any. Maybe, we could let them play together and burn up all their energy?!

I know you live in WH, but if you take the parkway, it's not too far to try Backyard Adventures or the Family Fun Center in Lakeland. They are both indoors & the charge is not very much at all, especially at the Family Fun Center, I took my daughter there early one weekday recently & there was only one other child in the play area at that time. :)
Hi everyone!! He LOVES Backyard Adventures!! We actually went during the school year on Wednesdays for Mommy and Me time. I haven't been to the Family Fun Center. Brooksy...it's too funny, we have the "SAME" issue. I took him to the free movie at the Cobb today and we ended up leaving! LOL Like you said, thank goodness it was free! It's SO hot I just don't want to take him to the park. He'd probably play all day out there but I can't sit there like that. I have a 6 month old little guy too!!
Hi ladies!

My little boy is almost 2. We just went to Explorations V Children's Museum today and it was wonderful. It is another great indoor activity. It's $5 per person to get in, but for $60 a year for an annual pass, you can go as much as you like. I think it's a good deal and lots of fun!
I have a 21 month old and we go to Explorations fairly often. He loves it. The first couple visits he explored a bit tentatively but now we show up and he screams and takes off playing on the firetruck, sheriffs car, small airplane and he loves the grocery store area. Plus bonus downstairs in the "grove" area there's a slide so he can do one of his favorite park activities too.
Oh my...now I'm really scared!! :)))

Seriously, after raising four kids (still have a 5 year old to tackle)....there is no cure for the terrible twos. I found that you will have to wait until they are 18 and hope like heck they go to college...in another state.

This energy you speak of only multiplies in the form of school projects, homework, sports, hormones or testosterone, homecoming, prom, studying for the SAT exam and never ending eating you out of house and home.

Good luck to you!
I love the book, Love and Logic Parenting. You might try that, it applies to all ages and deals with tantrums, too.
Thanks!!!!! Ordering the book now!
