Twenty Polk Principals Get New Assignments in Wake of School Grades
Twenty Polk Schools, which equals hundreds of students, will see new leadership for the 2012-2013 school year. If you're seeing a change at your child's school, are you glad to see it?
My youngest two are included in those numbers; they will have a new principal at their school. How about your child?

Permalink Reply by Carrie Brady on July 29, 2012 at 11:40am My daughters go to Jewett School of the Arts and we are also getting a new principal....I am not really sure how to feel yet. I am concerned though because it looks like our new principal will be sharing her time between 2 schools - Jewett School of the Arts and Jewett Academy....our school is a K-8, PLUS she will be the principal of a 2nd middle school?!?!?
Not sure how this will affect the teachers and possibly plans that were already in the plan...not sure that making a change just a few weeks before the school year is such a great idea. My main hope is that the new principal will keep the lines of communication open, respect what has already been established, but look to making much needed changes at our school....morale has been low all around and I do hope that changes quickly.
Permalink Reply by Alicia (Alsan) on July 29, 2012 at 10:18pm Observing the move.... Principals from A/B elementary school are being moved to middle schools (most of them) and middle school Principals to the elementary ones. Tactical moves to try to improve district grade overall. Good grades, by percentage, belongs to elementary schools. The district grade lowers because of secondary schools. No surprise, at least for me, the district understand the A/B "magic" lies in elementary school principal's administrative/educative organization?
I am concern over the A/B elementary schools and secondary principals taking over.

I clicked the link not thinking our elem principal would be on the list! I'm surprised the number of "A" schools that have principals moving, our being one of them.
Oh, and important to point out that the information is coming from an email sent to all PSCB staff but it was recalled short later. I believe the information was not supposed to be released at that time or something else.
Sure wish my school was on the list. It would at least give me hope.
Permalink Reply by Tabby on July 30, 2012 at 8:05am I know the principal from Wendell Watson Elementary is moving to Lake Gibson Middle. Pretty happy about this because she knows Jesse and his issues. I think her idea there is going to be good. The reason for the grades each getting different color school tees is to stop the older kids from being in with the younger kids and help reduce the bullying. Although I was upset I can't get shirts at the consignment store and have to buy new grey ones, but I understand it.

Permalink Reply by Carrie Brady on August 1, 2012 at 4:50pm Still not sure if some of these schools will be going from bad to worse....while our entire school administration has been replaced (part of me is actually glad about that....with the exception of one) we will now have a Principal and possibly an entire administration that will be splitting duties between our K-8 school PLUS the middle school next door.
I was already frustrated about the lack of involvement / accessibility with our administration....now what will it be like? Parent involvement dropped to almost nil....Our school dropped from a long-running A school to a C school....we just got back into an A school rating...very uncertain times indeed for the children in our county.
Permalink Reply by Tabby on August 2, 2012 at 12:29pm Jesse is going from an Wendell Watson Elementary School which is an A school to Lake Gibson Middle which is a D school. Hoping that the principal from WWE can bring that grade up. She did wonders at WWE with her time there.
Permalink Reply by DisneyMamaTo2 on August 13, 2012 at 4:30pm Saw the change on Loughman's website middle of last week....I'm concerned because Ms. Aponte was able to handle a lot of stuff for parents as Asst Principal that Mrs Hancock couldn't. I fear the loss of contact.
Permalink Reply by Keranis Noble on August 14, 2012 at 12:51pm If I am reading correctly, it seems as though Aponte is acting principal until a new principal is hired. So maybe the hiring process isn't over and she will go back to VP eventually. My child will be attending Loughman for the first time this year and we are new to the area, so I do not have first-hand info on any administrative changes. Please let me know if you find out anything new!
