Polk Moms

Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.

My husband got a job (YAY!! finally after 16 mo).  It's 430-midnight 5 days a week.  I close at Disney two nights a week, Sunday and Monday.

I would absolutely need someone 330-midnight both nights and it would involve dinner, bath and bedtime for our 3yo and 7yo.  Our 7yo is on the Autism Spectrum, though mild.  Mondays he'd have to be met at the bus at 345.

The Disney day care closes at 11, so it doesn't help us since I don't get out of work those nights until 1130.

Congratulations on your husband's new employment.

Now, the sticky part. It might be challenging to get great care in those hours, priceless in fact, so it very well may be tough to find a good deal.   Good luck, and don't give up. I'm sure it's out there.   There are many (moms especially) that may find those hours convenient to them.  Do you have an area you need the care preference?  Closer to your home or work?

I work at Epcot and live at 192/27.  (feel kind of weird any time I post here because we're BARELY Polk County)

because of getting our 7yo from the bus, i'd almost have to have someone in my home unless they were willing to pick him up on Mondays.   logistics gets crazy, kwim?

Don't feel silly at all.  In fact we chat a lot of info for central Florida in general plus we have the common thread of being parents (mostly moms).

As far as your logistics go, good luck.  It does seem to be head-spinning stuff.   I wish you luck in your quest.

Maybe try a Homeschooling group and look for a mature teen that can drive. Maybe the oldest of several siblings. Or a retired person that needs to supplement their income but under the table so their SS check does not decrease. It will be a challenge but I bet is doable. As far as how much to pay. I pay my sitter $10/hour for one 5 year old during the day or evening and have meals made. So with the picking up from school, dinner and likely homework, bath and bedtime I would likely offer more at least for the 5 hours of awake time. Then maybe decrease the rate while they are sleeping.

Or is their anyway to adjust your schedule on those night? Could you go in 30 minutes earlier and go home at 11 to get them from day care just those 2 nights?

Best of luck to you! I always say I would rather go through labor again than try to find childcare, it is tough!

Carla

Just wanted to update you all....I wound up posting on care.com and found a PHENOMENAL nanny/sitter.  She is here 3-midnight every Sunday and Monday nights.  She's truly worth way more than I can afford to pay her.

Carla, no....unfortunately can't adjust my schedule at all. I'd have to leave my role at Epcot and find something different to get other hours.

Congratulations and thank you for the update.  :)

Parents it is that time of year to start looking for a preschool / V.P.K. Program ~ Please be aware of your vpk rights:

1. You have the right to  choose which vpk program you would like to enroll in.

2. To be free from the provider or school requiring you to pay any fee or charge for the vpk program.

3.To have the provider/school admit your child in the VPK program without requiring you to enroll (or pay) for additional services ( full day , wrap around services , extended - day services.) Basically if you just want the 3 free vpk hours that is all you need to enroll for .

If any school or provider try to charge you~ call : 1-850-717-8624 they will take care of the problem If you need more info I can be reached at Joyful Hearts Preschool (863)617 -2131 ~ Dawn MCDonald

Disney''s a 24-hour operation, there are 5 families at my location alone that would benefit from later hours.  I've since learned that it's their license that prevents them from being open later.

It sucks all around, but I'm happy with our current situation as it stands.  If you need someone, I strongly suggest care.com

Thanks for the care.com tip. I always wondered if they had quality people on there!

Best part is that there are different levels of membership to get different levels of background checks.  I really am happy with the service.
