The last few days I've been listening to the following song non-stop.

It's by David Sylvian and Robert Fripp.

David Sylvian used to be the singer for a band called Japan, and

Robert Fripp has always been the main guitarist for the legendary

band called King Crimson.

This one (song/video) is from '93 when they did an album together:

Here are the incredible lyrics:

Jean The Birdman

by David Sylvian

He gambles on the saddle
He's pulling on the mane
He thrashes on the horse's back
Ambition is a bloody game

Horse doesn't want to jump
The river looks too wide
Well he faces every hurdle
With a nervous state of mind

"Stay with me, breathe deeply
take three passes back
turn and make a full attack"

The gods are laughing
And they're tugging at the reins
But he's taken to his wings
And they hit the bank

Heaven may stone him
But Jean the birdman pulls it off

His finger's on the trigger
His eye is on the clock
He doesn't give the game away
And quickly fires the bullets off

Six hearts cut short
Still dreaming they're alive
Blown 'round in dusty circles
Like an absent state of mind

Who hunter? Who victim?
God love America
He surely doesn't love him

Hitching out of nowhere
Lines of traffic knee deep
A chance to stave the morning off
And get some sleep

Heaven may stone him
But Jean the birdman pulls it off

He wears a crucifix
His mother left to him
It's wrapped in chains around his heart
Rusted and wafer thin

"Don't count on luck son"
All the angels sing
"Don't need to check a weathervane
We all know what tomorrow brings"

Life is a cattle farm
Coyotes with the mules
Life is a bullring
For taking risks and flouting rules

Who needs a safety net
The world is open wide
Just look out for card sharks
And the danger signs

Heaven may stone him
But Jean the birdman pulls it off

Hahahahaha !!

Wow, ok......

Is David Bowie terrible also?

Obviously art and music are subjective, but I never in my life ever thought I'd hear
someone say that David Sylvian is terrible.

That's part of what makes this life interesting, I suppose.

Here's another one that's been blowin' up my laptop lately.

There's no need to print the lyrics to this one because - well -
they are Steve Miller lyrics....hehehe.

My music tastes are rather eclectic and vary based on my moods. Depeche Mode and the Beatles are 2 favs (Bowie is always good also). Mostly I stick to country (Keith Whitley is my country fav) and musicals. I've been on a Les Miserables kick lately and that's what's in my CD player right now. But I usually scan the radio until something catches my attention.
i like all kinds of music. some of my fav are kid rocks all summer long, greatful deads shake down street, tom petty's last dance with mary jane. alan jacksons drive for daddy gene. brad pasley's online. gorillaz clint eastwood.
theres just sooo many i crank up.
my daughter hates riding in the car with me, i am a flipper and it drives her nuts. she wants to listen to one station.
I have rock, pop, latin and college stations (for news, jazz, classical, foreign, etc) set in my car.

I have a hip hop song stuck in my head right now...something about "there are so many people up in here that I didn't know last year, who the f*** are y'all" I love hard core "street" hip hop. If you can get past the obnoxious lyrics that are present most of the time, the music and beats of hip hop are just amazing in my opinion.

I like some classic rock (are the Police considered classic rock? Fleetwood Mac, Doobie Brothers, Zeppelin, Stones, etc). I always blast "Brandie" by Looking Glass and "Dancing in the Moonlight" by 3 Dog Night when I hear it.

Our first dance wedding song was "We've Only Just Begun" by the Carpenters, and my cousin played "It Had to be You" by Frank Sinatra on the piano at the church.

I love 80's new wave (Durran Durran, New Order, Smiths, random one hit wonders, Cure, Cult), 90's rock like Smashing Pumpkins, etc. and some newer rock (there are songs by Foo Fighters and MGMT I really like)...I like rock with a lot of electronic sounds. I like some electronica.

I always loved anything you could dance to like classic disco, freestyle, clubby stuff like house music (I partied with the club kids for a few years in NY).

I like soulful stuff like R & B (classics like Al Green, Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye), I like Jazz, both vocal and non, classic and new.

I like foreign stuff too. I love Edit Piaf. My family immigrated from France, so maybe that's why.

The most recent music I picked up in my 20s was Latin. I always liked some Latin due to house and club music in NY having a lot of Latin influence. My roommate in college got me into some merengue. Then I moved to S Florida in 97 and started listening to more Salsa and got hooked. I especially like Columbian salsa, and old school PR and Cuba stuff. I love Brazilian samba classics.

There are actually a few country songs I like, but I prefer the classics and older stuff that sounds like talking (ie. Johnny Cash..is he country?).

I worked in the music industry in NY for a while and had a blast. I thought I would end up working at a record label or in a record store (I still have my Technique 1200 turntables) but life took me in a different direction!

My cousin played keyboards for Panic at the Disco. He now has his own band called Black Gold and they have a unique sound if anyone wants to check them out. I guess they were considered Indie, but I don't really know what to call it.

Jmarr,

Interesting response. Much appreciated.

However, "Dancing in the Moonlight" is not by 3 Dog Night .............it's King Harvest:

And when is the last time any of you heard THIS classic?:

Sweet - Love Is Like Oxygen

.

Does everyone remember the era before all the overproduced vocals, drums, guitar, etc?

Remember the era before the fake ELECTRIC drums?

Here's a slow song by the rock band called Trapeze from 1972 that I bet most of you ladies
will love:

Thank you! I was wondering if I had that right. What hits did 3 Dog Night have?

1 - Love Like Crazy - Lee Brice

2 - This Afternoon - Nickelback

My good friend sent me several GREAT songs I'd never heard before, nor had I even heard of these bands:
.

The Doves - "Catch The Sun"

The following video is "interesting" to say the least, but the song and artist are really spectacular:

Alex Lloyd - "Green"

The following song I discovered myself from watching a bunch of STP videos. Army of Anyone is an offshoot of Stone Temple Pilots with Richard Patrick of Filter on vocals. The following song is a masterpiece:
