Connecting moms in Polk County, Fla.
My daughter has been taking horse riding lessons here for 9 months. She started at Hidden Meadow Farms for a summer camp. My daughter is 9 (8 when she started) and is a natural, I mean she is good and enjoys it. Ashley is the trainer and she is very good and patient. She not only teaches the girls (my daughter included) how to ride a horse, but how to control the horse. The girls learn how to tack their horse and how to take care of the horse. This barn is not a show barn, but they do go to shows. If you feel that you don't want to show, you don't. My daughter did her first show after only 6 months of lessons. Believe me horse shows aren't cheap. Ashley's prices are very reasonable. You don't have to have a saddle or helmet, if you don't want, because Ashely provides everything. Each lesson is private. She offers 30 min and 60 min. lessons. My daughter does one hour and one half hour lesson each wk. All you need is the want to learn and long pants, to ride. There is another summer camp coming up in June. This horse farm is out in Plant City and it teaches English riding. If you want Western, then you might want to find someone here in Polk Co.

These places are great and VERY knowledgble. I have known them for many years. What area are you in and what style is your daughter wanting to ride? That will make it easier. I use to give lessons but have nothing to give them on now. Let me know and I will help find a reputable place for you. This is one of my pet peeves is people giving lessons that don't know what they are doing!

OH I forgot, Dani does western and she has many years and is great too!! I have put her rescue site up, but you can get contact info there!
Thanks to both of you :)
I was thinking about western but English would be good too - I took both kinds as a kid and I was glad to know about both.
I live near County Line Road so Plant City is great but I am willing to drive a bit for the right person.
Lisa Travis is a FANTASTIC teacher!!! She gives lessons out on Old Polk City near Tomkow on North Lakeland. My daughter has been riding with her a year and she is fabulous!!!! Her # is 863-602-0782. Good luck! She can offer lessons in both, but English is her specialty. She is very knowledgeable and competes herself.
My son did riding therapy at Tianvica in Bartow.
How did that go? I have 2 children with special needs and riding was recommended to me for therapy.
It was nice. My son has come a long way though, and I don't think it was challenging enough for him. If he would have stuck with it, maybe they would have eventually let him ride a bit faster and on his own, but it was one of two therapies we were doing at the time, so we had to stop. I told him we could go back eventually if he wanted, but he hasn't asked to go back yet.
It really does work wonders for many kids with a wide range of issues...and adults too, so I it's worth a try.
That is great for your son. Maybe you should ask him if he would like to ride again.
There are many accredited Therapeutic riding places but this is my favorite I have been to....
I am even putting their facebook link up!~
Hidden Meadow Farms is just a few minutes from County Line Rd (depending on where you live on Co. Line Rd). The barn is located off of Co. Rd 39. Since Co Line Rd is open from Ewell to Rt. 60 it is alot quicker for me now, I live in Highland City. My daughter and myself really like Ashley and her way of training. She never pressures my daughter, if my daughter says he doesn't want to do something then Ashley gives her that right. Then a few minutes later she will ask her again, usually by then my daughter will agree to it. Here is their Facebook link. It can give you an idea of how she works her barn and what all she offers/does.
