Breast Cancer Causes

Breast cancer causes are significant to understand as they are the main gateways for development of malignant infection in breast areas. Some causes may be direct while some others may be indirect in assisting the cancerous cells to develop freely and may cause formation and spread of tumors in long run.

Meaning of Breast Cancer Causes

Breast cancer is a form of malignant infection in breasts and may spread to other cells and tissues present in the adjacent organs or areas. Such cancer is easy to control in the initial stages but severe health complications may arise in later stages when the tumor cells develop a strong potential to neutralize resistance by normal cells and tissues present in the areas.

Most cases of breast cancer are detected in adult females usually beyond the age of fifty years. Some cases of cancer of breast are also detected in men but the ratio is very less. Out of every 100 cases of breast cancer, almost 99 cases are detected in women. Chances of occurrence of the disease are very high in females and around one out of every eight women have chances of being vulnerable to cancer of breast at least once in a lifetime.

Breast cancer leads to a high numbers of deaths worldwide and is a serious concern to be tackled with. Breast cancer causes or risk factors are the elements or habits that instigate the normal cells and functional tissues to behave abruptly due to lack of resources and force them further to form malignant lumps. Such lumps can be formed either due to primary or secondary breast cancer. Primary type of the disease is a kind of tumor-growth in the breast itself which further spreads to other regions. Secondary form of the disease is a type of malignant growth wherein the tumors are formed due to cancerous growth in various other areas such as lungs, stomach, abdomen, skin etc. Such tumors soon develop a tendency to spread and reach breast areas wherein they attack vital tissues and cells therein and make them mal-functional.

Breast cancer may arise either in ducts or in lobules. Ductal carcinoma is the most common form of the disease and the infection develops primarily in the ducts (organ that helps to move milk from breast to nipples). Lobular carcinoma is less common, but can be a serious concern if ignored for a long time. In this type of infection, the cancer cells target primarily the lobules (milk-producing organ). Impact of breast cancer causes depends on the type of cancer and the location of origin of cancer cells.

Main Breast Cancer Causes

Early start of periods and late menopause are the two main causes of the disorder. Females undergoing periods before the age of 12 or undergoing menopause after the age of 55 should be alert about any abnormalities arising in the breast areas. Being pregnant at the right age (usually under 30 years) minimizes the chances of breast cancer considerably. Those who undergo pregnancy more than once are highly safe from the disorder.

The disease targets mainly the adults (above 50 years). Family history of the disorder and genetic defects detected in BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes are major causes of breast cancer. Unnaturally high amount of estrogen in the body increases risk of the disease. Breast cancer is more common in white women as compared to black ones and amounts to almost 23% of the overall cases of cancer worldwide.
